Netflix is developing an adult animated adaptation of Grim, the hit Boom! Studios comic from Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano. The project comes from Al Gough and Miles Millar, the creators and executive producers behind Netflix’s most-watched English-language series Wednesday.
Netflix Teams With Gough, Millar, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson
Deadline reports that Gough and Millar will executive produce the series alongside Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who serves as Supervising Director on Netflix’s Emmy-winning Love, Death + Robots. Netflix declined to comment, but the project is in active development.
The series marks another high-profile adaptation for Boom! Studios and comes as Phillips prepares to launch her new Daredevil run in March 2026.
@snapcracklesteph GRIM IS HEADED TO NETFLIX! When I first wrote this book, I never imagined we’d be here talking about the creators of Wednesday adapting it for TV and the director behind Love, Death, and Robots working on it. I am so excited to share this universe with a whole new audience! #marvel #wednesdayaddams #booktok #author #netflix @BOOM! Studios ♬ original sound – Stephanie Phillips
The Story of Grim
Grim follows Jessica Harrow, a newly recruited Reaper who ferries souls to the afterlife. Jessica doesn’t remember her life or her death, pushing her into a search for answers that exposes hidden forces and a deeper connection to Death itself. The comic blends supernatural mystery with horror-fantasy worldbuilding and was one of Boom! Studios’ highest-selling launches when it debuted in 2022.
The comic’s 25-issue run concludes this month, making the Netflix announcement arrive at a timely moment for fans.

The Creative Team Behind the Series
Alongside Gough, Millar, and Yuh Nelson, the series is being executive produced by Stephen Christy and Adam Yoelin for Boom! Studios, with Mette Norkjaer co-executive producing. Phillips and artist Flaviano are also co-executive producers on the adaptation.
Gough and Millar bring a long TV and film track record, including Smallville, Into the Badlands, The Shannara Chronicles, Spider-Man 2, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Yuh Nelson adds extensive animation experience, including directing Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3.
Boom! Studios’ Growing Presence in Adaptations
Grim joins a growing slate of adaptations from Boom! Studios, which recently saw its series Butterfly, starring Daniel Dae Kim, launch on Prime Video. With Gough and Millar attached, Grim is poised to become Netflix’s next major supernatural title.
More updates are expected as Netflix finalizes development.
