Is Garret Dillahunt Playing DCU's Green Arrow?

In an interesting turn of events, now that the DCU Lanterns is in production, actor Garret Dillahunt posts and deletes a social media post that seemingly reveals he could be playing Green Arrow, Oliver Queen.

The news follows the recent big leak of the flight video, as well as Sinestro actor Ulrich Thomsen challenging the David Corenswet Superman, and the possible casting of Atrocitus.

Who is Garret Dillahunt playing in Lanterns?

The official description from the Lanterns series for Garret Dillahunt’s character is that he is playing “modern cowboy” William Macon, who is a “self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated facade.”

It’s actually thought that Dillahunt is playing the villain of the series, and there is fan speculation that Dillahunt might even be the Black Hand. Actor Jason Ritter has also been announced to be playing his son, Billy Macon.

In the comics, Oliver Queen does have a son named Connor Hawke, and in the Arrowverse it’s William Clayton (Billy is actually short for William, too).

Garret Dillahunt teases Green Arrow on social media

Garret Dillahunt posted some sort of Green Arrow storyboard which looks to have been created by comic book artist Seth Adams.

Dillahunt also posted what looks to be a pic of himself as Green Arrow, stating, “Ollie Ollie oxen free,” of course referencing the name Oliver Queen.

So what’s going on?

Well, either the actor is trolling fans or, quite possibly, yes, he is really playing James Gunn’s Green Arrow. What could be going on is that all the characters revealed for the Lanterns series are some sort of codenames. Fans even think the recent casting news of actor Paul Ben-Victor in Lanterns is really Atrocitus.

If Garret Dillahunt is really playing Green Arrow, obviously he isn’t the villain of the series. If I had to guess, I would guess much like what Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre are doing in the series, Oliver Queen might also be undercover or something, and investigating the murder in the small town. Then the Green Lanterns meet up with Green Arrow. Pretty wild if this all turns out true. Pretty awesome, too.

James Gunn’s Lanterns Series Drops in 2026 – Here’s What We Know

James Gunn says Lanterns is coming early 2026, though the exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet. The DCU series will run for eight episodes. Chris Mundy is the showrunner, with Damon Lindelof and Tom King co-writing and executive producing.

The cast also includes Kyle Chandler, who plays Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre takes on John Stewart. Kelly Macdonald is Sheriff Kerry, Hal Jordan’s reported love interest. Poorna Jagannathan plays a character named Zoe, possibly a love interest of Stewart. Nathan Fillion is back as Guy Gardner, continuing from Gunn’s Superman, which hits theaters July 11.

Ulrich Thomsen is Sinestro, and Paul Ben-Victor has recently been announced to be playing Antaan, an extraterrestrial devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people. Consumed by a deep and unrelenting hatred for the law, he is determined to deliver justice on his own terms.

The story centers on John Stewart, a new recruit, and Hal Jordan, a veteran Lantern. Together, they investigate a murder in the American heartland that ties into a deeper, darker mystery.
