The Conjuring: Last Rites, the fourth film in the franchise, has officially wrapped production, which marks the end of an era that started a dozen years ago.
The Conjuring kicked off back in 2013 starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. The flick would see big success and spawn three movie movies in addition to numerous spinoffs including Annabelle and The Nun.

Vera Farmiga posted a “wedding” image on social media of Ed and Lorraine and confirmed it’s her and Patrick Wilson’s last ride.
“Round about 5000 days ago, this guy and I signed a WB contract and said ‘I do’ to embodying Ed and Lorraine Warren. Today, he wraps,” she posted on Instagram two days ago. “I have another 12 hours of laughter and insanity with him and then abruptly, he will walk off set, peel off sweat soaked demonologist garb, shave off his side burns, flash that dazzling smile and bid our fake marriage adieu.”
Varmiga added, “Yeah… I got them feels today. It was a match made in heaven, PWilz. A hell of an era. Here’s to 12 years. I cherish you.”
What is The Conjuring: Last Rites about?
Details are being kept under wraps. The Conjuring: Last Rites gets released September 5, 2025 directed by Michael Chaves who directed The Nun II, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Curse of La Llorona.
Some fans are hoping the franchise will return to its roots, focusing on Lorraine and Ed Warren investigating a haunted house, as seen in the first film.
Possible storylines drawn from the Warrens’ real-life cases could include the infamous Amityville house, or the Smurl family’s Pennsylvania home, where Jack and Janet Smurl claimed to be tormented by a demon.
Another possibility is the Haunting in Connecticut, where In 1986, Carmen and Al Snedeker moved with their children into a rental home in Southington, Connecticut, to be closer to the hospital where their son, Philip, was receiving cancer treatment. Unbeknownst to them, the house had previously operated as a funeral home. The Snedekers contacted Ed and Lorraine Warren, who concluded that the house was infested with demons.
