James Gunn’s Superman trailer release is most likely imminent as recently saw not only a new image featuring a first look at Krypto but Gunn also recently confirmed footage has been finished for a while.
DC insiders actually filled us in at Comic-Con that the trailer was being worked on, so that fits with what James Gunn recently said. We’re told from DC insiders the movie is “solid.”
The best guess right now is that the Superman trailer will be released in December, which is seven months from the film’s release in July of 2025. Gunn even has seemingly teased the trailer release for this year to fans on social media.
What has James Gunn said about Superman footage?
Responding to the rumor how X user BigScreenLeaks said that Superman is “in post-production to the point where I’m told there’s an assembly cut done,” James Gunn confirmed, “Oh the assembly was done long ago.”
It’s our understanding the Superman trailer has been worked on since at least July, which correlated with other CBM trailers released at Comic-Con.
When will James Gunn’s Superman trailer be released?
While James Gunn is appearing this week at the New York Comic Con for the Creature Commandos series, as we recently went over, it’s guessed the Superman trailer will actually be released in December at Brazil’s CCXP.
The CCXP happens to be the biggest convention in the world. According to reports nearly 300k fans attended the event in 2023.
This year’s CCXP takes place December 5 – 8th. It’s likely Gunn will bring the DCU to the CCXP on Saturday, December 7, which is when the Superman trailer will be released.
At previous CCXP events, DC showed up big, so we can also assume James Gunn will be in attendance with the cast, which would include David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and others.
What will the James Gunn’s Superman trailer show?
We can only guess what James Gunn’s Superman trailer will show but we can take a look at Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trailers and The Suicide Squad trailer for clues. All three are about 2 to 3 minutes each, so it’s probably safe to assume Gunn’s first DCU trailer will be of similar length.
We can also guess that the trailer will probably start with shots of Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane before giving fans the big reveal of David Corenswet in the new Superman suit. It’s also likely the trailer will include either a favorite song picked out by Gunn or the first taste of the John Murphy music score, or both.
The Superman trailer could also feature footage of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner Green Lantern, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific — all of whom have been featured extensively in set images.
James Gunn filmed parts of the movie in Cleveland, Ohio, the birthplace of the Man of Steel. Snippets of trailer footage could show Metropolis and the Daily Planet cast which includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennet as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.
The Superman trailer will also likely feature a hook near the end to further excite fans about what will come. At CCXP, Gunn and the cast will further discuss the movie offering new details and we can guess the first Superman poster will also be released around the event.

DC officially describes the film as telling the story of the Man of Steel’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
At the big DCU announcement from January 2023, Gunn added, “Superman is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world. I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
When does James Gunn’s Superman get released?
Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025. Frank Grillo also stars as Rick Flag Sr., Milly Alcock is also said to be appearing for the first time as Supergirl prior to her movie which gets released in 2026.
Pruitt Taylor Vince is playing Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell is playing Martha Kent, Sean Gunn is playing the DCU’s Maxwell Lord, Sara Sampaio is playing as Eve Teschmacher, and Terence Rosemore is playing Otis. Christopher Reeve’s son, Will Reeve, has also been cameo in a role, with Alan Tudyk in a mystery role.
