It’s learned that Alan Tudyk has a secret role in James Gunn’s Superman movie.
The actor was not officially announced as part of the cast but is known for voicing Doctor Phosphorus in Gunn’s DCU Creature Commandos series. It is also known that actors voicing characters in Creature Commandos will portray their respective live-action counterparts. For example, Frank Grillo voices Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos and will also appear in Superman.
However, while Deadline doesn’t come out and say it, it almost sounds like it’s Alan Tudyk is playing a different role in Superman than Doctor Phosphorus.
Deadline only says they are hearing Alan Tudyk is in the flick in an “undisclosed role.”
Could Alan Tudyk be playing Brainiac in Superman?
Rumors offer Brainiac is the true villain of Gunn’s film that introduces David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel.
The film also sports Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. If someone is playing Brainiac, it would be pretty much a secret as Gunn has never confirmed if Brainiac is or is not in the movie.
As noted, Alan Tudyk is also voicing Clayface in the unrelated Max animated series, Harley Quinn. He also has a history with Gunn as Gunn starred in an episode of Tudyk’s Vimeo series, Con Man, which ran from 2015-2017.
Superman finished filming in July, so it could be possible that Alan Tudyk’s name leaked due to doing voice-over work for Brainiac in post-production.
Of course, Alan Tudyk could always be playing Doctor Phosphorus or another character. Sean Gunn happens to playing at least three characters in the DCU with Weasel and GI Robot in Creature Commandos and he’s playing the live-action version of Maxwell Lord, said to be appearing in Superman, as well.
Creature Commandos gets released in December. Gunn has confirmed he and the cast will be at the NYCC next month.
Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025 and also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
The additional cast includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern Guy Gardner), María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer), Wendell Pierce (Daily Planet editor Perry White), and Beck Bennet.
