Rob Liefeld Returns to Youngblood in 2025, Partners with Image Comics for New Media and Merchandise

Legendary comic book creator Rob Liefeld is officially returning to his iconic series Youngblood in a new partnership with Image Comics.

Liefeld, known for his groundbreaking work in the industry including creating Marvel’s Deadpool, Cable, and X-Force, has announced exciting projects surrounding Youngblood, set to launch in 2025. After seven years away, Liefeld is eager to revive the series, which helped launch the Image Revolution and established Image Comics as a powerhouse in the comic book world.

“It’s so great that I can run into the comfort of characters that I created, that launched a movement. They carry such history. I love Youngblood so much. These characters are my absolute passion,” Liefeld shared, expressing his enthusiasm for his return.

He added on social media, “Reunited and it feels so good! 2025 is gonna be BIG… Y’all have been so kind, I appreciate you so much, I aim to go out with a banger.”

Joining Liefeld is Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, CEO of Platinum Studios Inc., which currently manages Youngblood through Rip Media Inc. Rosenberg, who worked closely with Liefeld during the formation of Image Comics in 1992, is equally excited about the return.

“Rob and I are a fantastic team, and I’m as excited now for Youngblood’s relaunch as I was in 1992 for its initial launch,” said Rosenberg.  “The team’s awesome characters have not only been in their own Youngblood comics, but also appeared in more than 100 million comic publications worldwide, including crossovers with Marvel and other Image comics. I’m excited to bring them to audiences old and new with their original creator, Rob Liefeld.”

Youngblood became a historic title in the comic book industry when it debuted as the first non-Marvel, non-DC comic book to chart at #1, selling over a million copies. Its original miniseries sold more than 25 million copies globally, and its legacy has been shaped by contributions from industry legends such as Robert Kirkman, Alan Moore, and Mark Millar. With over 100 issues published, Youngblood remains a staple of comic book history.

The new Youngblood project will include a brand-new title written and illustrated by Liefeld, published by Image Comics in 2025.

Eric Stephenson, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer of Image Comics, expressed his excitement: “As our company’s very first comic, Youngblood set the course not just for Image Comics, but for creator-owned comics, so we couldn’t be more thrilled that Rob is returning to his signature creation.” Stephenson further added, “Rob’s vision for these characters and this concept is what originally attracted me to Image Comics way back in the 1990s, so it’s especially exciting that the series that started it all is finally coming home!”

To celebrate Youngblood‘s return, Image Comics will release a Youngblood Vault Edition, showcasing high-resolution scans of the original artwork from the first Youngblood series. A Facsimile Edition of Youngblood #1 is also in the works to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of its release in April 2025.
