Netflix has announced that Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon has topped its streaming ratings coming in at nearly 24 million views.
“Zack Snyder’s wholly original science fantasy epic Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire debuted atop the English Films List with 23.9M views, making it the most-watched title of the week,” announced Netflix.
Netflix continued, “In the lead-up to release, fans were treated to ‘moon takeovers’ around the world, immersive trailer experiences directed by Snyder himself, and sneak peek fan screenings. The film also made the shortlist for the 96th Academy Awards in the visual effects category.”
Starts off strong
The news that Rebel Moon started off strong isn’t surprising as Netflix promoted the heck out of the movie. As people turn on Netflix, Rebel Moon is shown on the home screen so all people have to do is watch.
“It’s been a truly unparalleled experience introducing Rebel Moon to global audiences and I’m thrilled that the movie is #1 around the world,” Zack Snyder said in a statement. “We have the most dedicated and loyal fans across the world that any filmmaker could ask for, and seeing them consistently be supportive has been an enormously rewarding experience.”
Zack also released the following video message:
We did it rebels! Thank you for making Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire the # 1 movie on Netflix WORLDWIDE! Cannot wait for you to see Part Two: The Scargiver April 19th. pic.twitter.com/cK6bQfvNdQ

What will be interesting to see is whether or not Rebel Moon has any legs in subsequent weeks as the flick is currently getting destroyed by critics and fans.
Rebel Moon only has a 24% Rotten Tomatoes Critics Score and the Audience Score is at 65%. I also blasted the film in my review, and Redditors on the Netflix sub certainly aren’t holding back.
Will Rebel Moon crash and burn?
As THR also notes, insiders filled them in that the second week tends to be a big indicator of success as the flicks get a full week of viewing as opposed to just the opening weekend, and it’s also when word of mouth kicks in.
Will Rebel Moon crash and burn is the big question as word of mouth is horrible?
THR also points out that the threshold to hit Netflix’s top 10, which counts views racked up in the first three months, is at the 135 million mark.
At the #10 spot is the Russos and Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 2 with 134.9 million views, and at #1 is Red Notice starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot with 230.9 million.
Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver will be released on Netflix on April 19, 2024.
