Director Taika Waititi has admitted he only did the two Thor movies for Marvel because of the money and isn’t even a fan of the character.
Note to Kevin Feige and Nate Moore: This is what happens when you hire clowns that don’t like the comics.
Of course, Taika Waititi directed Thor: Ragnarok, which was really successful, where it’s thought he was allowed to do whatever he wanted with Thor: Love and Thunder, which explains that mess. Fans voted Thor: Love and Thunder the movie that broke the MCU’s back.
Thor is the bottom of the barrel for Waititi
While recently appearing on the SmartLess podcast, Taika Waititi explains why he took the Marvel gig.
“I had no interest in doing one of those films,” Waititi said. “It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur. But I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children.’”
Waititi continued with the mention that Thor “was probably the least popular franchise” adding, “I never read Thor comics as a kid. That was the comic I’d pick up and be like ‘Ugh.’ And then I did some research on it, and I read one Thor comic or 18 pages, or however long they are. I was still baffled by this character.”
The director added that when Marvel Studios approached him to direct the film he thought, “Well, they’ve called me in, this is really the bottom of the barrel.”
No Thor 5 for Waititi
Rumors have offered Waititi has been asked to direct Thor 5 but that’s not happening.
“I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate,” Waititi recently said when asked about Thor 5 at Marvel. “I know that I won’t be involved,” he said, adding, “I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.”
These other films include Taika Waititi is now supposed to be doing a Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm which he has been working on for three years. Recently, he joked it will piss the fans off.
