Thor Love: And Thunder Voted Project That Broke MCU

Fans have voted Thor: Love and Thunder as the project that broke the MCU.

The film was released in July of 2022 and brought in $760 million worldwide, about a hundred million less than Ragnarok.

Thor: Ragnarok also topped Love and Thunder in terms of Rotten Tomatoes reactions, as the former has scores of 93% and 87% and the latter 63% and 76%.

IMDb rated Ragnarok a 7.9 and Thor: Love and Thunder a 6.2, and audiences gave Ragnarok an “A” CinemaScore while Love and Thunder landed at the second worst in MCU history at “B+.”

Both films were directed by Taika Waititi, where Thor: Ragnarok has a near-perfect mix of humor and seriousness, but for whatever reason, Waititi was allowed to run wild with Thor: Love and Thunder which took the humor to a whole new level of goofiness.

As a result of Thor: Love and Thunder bombing, Taika Waititi is speculated to have been booted from Disney Star Wars, and Chris Hemsworth has even hinted he doesn’t want to work with Waititi again and said if he returns as Thor it needs to be a new direction.

Fans overwhelmingly choose Thor: Love and Thunder

So in a recent video, as Marvel has been on the downfall, YouTuber Grace Randolph asked her audience what project broke the MCU, which saw them overwhelmingly choose Thor: Love and Thunder.

Worth a mention is that Randolph’s audience is full of fans that lick up mostly anything Marvel (or name any IP) throws at them, so those types of fans that like everything naming Thor: Love and Thunder as the project that broke the MCU is telling.

The options also included She-Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Secret Invasion.

Regarding She-Hulk and Secret Invasion, not a lot of people watch the Disney+ shows, and we all expected She-Hulk to be goofy. Secret Invasion followed all the preceding choices, so when it tanked, it wasn’t a surprise.

It’s my own opinion that Thor: Love and Thunder is simply one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, right up there with The Flash. It is nothing like Ragnarok, and as Grace mentions in the video, it ruins two stories from the comics with Gorr the God Butcher, and Jane Foster getting cancer.

So when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania followed and audiences learned it was also goofy as FK, fans were just done with Marvel.

The results?

Randolph reveals nearly half her audience voted Thor: Love and Thunder as the straw that broke Marvel’s back:

  • Thor: Love and Thunder – 41%
  • Quantumania – 27%
  • She-Hulk – 16%
  • Secret Invasion – 14%

“Oh my goodness you guys voted overwhelmingly for the Thor: Love and Thunder at 41%, with Quantumania coming in at second place with 27%, She-Hulk at 16%, and then Secret Invasion. I thought that would be a major contender at 14% in last place. I suspect maybe the thing is that you guys feel it was already broken at that point, Secret Invasion was the final straw.”

Randolph added, “I guess that’s true, Thor: Love and Thunder trailers look so good and also I think Thor: Love and Thunder was based on two such wonderful Thor storylines from the comics, Gore the god Butcher, and what happened with Jane Foster, I think people were just shocked that those storylines were wasted the way… that was pretty bleak… so that was amazing.”
