MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR
BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Justice League is officially underway come April 11th when Zack Snyder starts filming in the UK.

Following the release of Batman Vs. Superman, Snyder has now turned his attention to Justice League discussing the big DC movie numerous times. This time, Zack Snyder talks with IGN mentioning why he chose the members that make up the current roster, which consists of Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Era Miller as The Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

Snyder first remarks that really early on he had the notion of Batman putting together the Justice League, and that the reason they killed off Superman in Batman vs. Superman was to make way for Batman as the leader (Snyder talks more about it here, with mention of Superman’s return). Snyder seemingly makes a dig at Captain America and the Hulk explaining that killing off Superman was a better choice than putting him on ice and throwing him into space.

“Pretty early on I had this idea that I wanted [Superman’s death] to happen. I really felt like if we were going to move forward with the Justice League, that Batman needed to put it together, and you couldn’t have this… I mean Superman is Superman,” Snyder said. “If he’s around, he’s going to be put in charge because he’s Superman. And so I really felt we need to – in a cool way – create a mechanism that could get him out of the way. And I didn’t want to [rolls eyes] freeze him on ice and shoot him into space. I thought that was boring [laughs].”

Snyder continues with mention of all the deaths in Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman (that some fans complained about), seemingly taking another swipe at Marvel by saying, “Because I really feel like consequences are important in super hero movies. Otherwise, they are slightly irresponsible, and we’re just saying ‘blow everything up and no one gets hurt, it’s awesome,’ and I just felt like no, no that’s not cool…”

Regarding why this particular group of Justice League members was used, Snyder offers:

“I thought long and hard about who to bring in, like who the Justice League would be made up of, and to me those are the heavy hitters right now. Of course, there’s room for some more, and I absolutely had to keep some back for the next little shock of awesomeness, but those guys felt like the guys that needed to surface.”

Justice League opens November 17, 2017. Watch more from Zack Snyder in the video below.
