Disney’s Star Wars isn’t what it once was and that is reflected by the fact that Warner Bros. has come out swinging and put its own space franchise against Lucasfilm.
Disney has an untitled Star Wars release date set for December 18, 2026, thought to be for the Daisy Ridley and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy “Star Wars: A New Beginning.”
New Denis Villeneuve “event film” set for December 18, 2026
Well, Warner Bros. has announced a new Denis Villeneuve “event film” will be released on that same date.
While Denis Villeneuve has said he needed a break following Dune 2 before Dune 3, he’s already rested, as the second movie came out back in March. Plus the additional time whenever the third movie gets underway.
According to Deadline, the “event film” set to be released on December 18, 2026 is indeed Dune 3.
“Dune Messiah” wrapping up trilogy
There has been talk about Denis Villeneuve doing that nuclear war movie, but it seems more likely WB would put Dune 3 up against Star Wars — if that Daisy Ridley movie even happens.
Dune: Part Three is said to be “Dune Messiah” and will wrap up Villeneuve’s trilogy.
Nuclear War: A Scenario is next for Denis Villeneuve after Dune 3
According to Deadline, after Dune Messiah is when Villeneuve will tackle the nuclear war movie.
The film is set to be based on the book, Nuclear War: A Scenario, which “explores a ticking-clock scenario about what would happen in the event of a nuclear war, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons and have been privy to the response plans and have been responsible for those decisions should they need to be made.”
Will the Daisy Ridley Star Wars movie happen? Does anyone care?
Regarding the new Star Wars movie, according to the latest reports, the script still isn’t finished.
Director Obaid-Chinoy has said it’s about “Daisy Ridley and her story, and taking her on an adventure to a Jedi Academy, and sort of creating a world that is a natural dovetail to the story that we’ve seen her go through in the last three episodes.”
Oddly, in their reporting, both Deadline, THR and Variety didn’t mention that a Star Wars movie has the same release date as Dune 3. Years ago, it would have been unheard of for a rival studio to put up anything against Star Wars. Not anymore.
Per the norm, Disney and Lucasfilm are already spinning things that it’s the fans’ fault to blame for the potential Star Wars failure as recent interviews involve Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy saying how she is ignoring fans and wants to bring in new ones (who aren’t watching Star Wars).
Star Wars has become the laughing stock of Hollywood, and we see Warner Bros. thinks so as well.
