Warner Bros Launches ‘Superman’ Oscars Campaign

Warner Bros Launches 'Superman' Oscars Campaign

Warner Bros. Discovery is officially mounting an Oscars “For Your Consideration” (FYC) campaign for Superman, James Gunn’s first film in the new DC Universe.

An FYC campaign is the film industry’s way of promoting a movie to Academy members, essentially a pitch for award recognition. Studios spend millions on screenings, ads, and special events to remind voters which titles they think deserve nominations.

The campaign makes it clear that Warner Bros. views Superman as an awards contender, not just a blockbuster. It also doesn’t mean said film will win an Oscar or even be nominated.

The studio’s campaign copy describes the film as: “Guided by human kindness in a world that sees goodness as old-fashioned, Superman is forced to reconcile his heritage as the Kryptonian Kal-El with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas, which challenges his selfless determination to use his power for good as humanity’s protector.”

FYC screenings are also being held for people in the industry at the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank on November 5, and at the Directors Guild of America theaters on November 28 and December 25.

In addition to Superman, Warner Bros. is also recommending One Battle After Another, Sinners, Weapons, and A Minecraft Movie.

Superman’s Oscar History

The last Superman film to win an Academy Award was Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman: The Movie, which earned a Special Achievement Oscar for Visual Effects. It was also nominated for Best Film Editing, Best Original Score (John Williams), and Best Sound.

No other Superman film — including Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013) — has received an Oscar win.

That makes Superman (2025) Warner Bros.’ first serious Oscar push for the character in nearly five decades.
