Peacock has officially renewed Twisted Metal for Season 3, with David Reed stepping in as showrunner and executive producer. Reed replaces Michael Jonathan Smith, who led the series through its first two seasons and is now exiting the project.
David Reed Joins as Showrunner
David Reed takes over the franchise following his work on The Boys, Supernatural, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He’s under an overall TV deal with Sony Pictures Television and brings experience in genre storytelling across TV, comics, and games.
Reed will executive produce alongside series co-creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Other EPs include Will Arnett and Marc Forman (Electric Ave), Anthony Mackie (Make It Gravy Productions), Jason Spire (Inspire Entertainment), Peter Principato (Artists First), and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Hermen Hulst of Sony Interactive Entertainment also remains onboard.
Season 2 Viewership and Setup for Season 3
According to Peacock, Season 2 of Twisted Metal logged 993 million minutes viewed, becoming the service’s second most-watched returning original scripted season.
The Season 2 finale sets up the new arc. John Doe (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) are framed by Calypso (Anthony Carrigan) for a massacre at the tournament, triggering a war between Insiders and Outsiders. The post-credit scene shows John and Quiet preparing for what’s next.
The Show So Far
Based on the PlayStation game series, Twisted Metal is a half-hour action comedy. Season 1 followed John delivering a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Season 2 put John and Quiet inside the deadly tournament hosted by Calypso, with returning characters like Sweet Tooth (Joe Seanoa/Will Arnett) and new ones like Dollface (Tiana Okoye).
Season 3 is now in active development.
