Toy Story 5 First Look: Woody Loses His Badge, Buzz Gets a New Look

Pixar has released the first official renders of Woody and Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 5, which hits theaters on June 19, 2026.

Woody’s Missing Badge

Fans quickly noticed a key detail — Woody is no longer wearing his sheriff’s badge.

The change continues from the end of Toy Story 4, where Woody passed the badge on to Jessie before leaving with Bo Peep.

The new image confirms he’s still without it, suggesting the movie will continue exploring Woody’s new path apart from Bonnie’s room.

Buzz Gets an Upgrade?

Buzz Lightyear’s new render reveals a small but noticeable change: a shiny gold star sticker now covers his “Lightyear” logo.

Pixar hasn’t commented on the meaning behind it, but fans speculate it could be a nod to Woody or symbolize Buzz’s leadership among the toys.

Toy Story 5 Release Info

Toy Story 5 is described as a “Toys Meet Tech” story centered around Bonnie receiving a smart toy tablet, which sparks tension among her classic toys. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack all return as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie.

Conan O’Brien provides the voice of Smarty Pants, a talking potty-training toy who thinks he’s the smartest gadget in the room. Described as overly confident and full of bad dad jokes, Smarty Pants introduces a tech-savvy personality that clashes with the old-school toys. His arrival sparks chaos in Bonnie’s room as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie struggle to deal with a toy that literally “knows everything.”

The film opens June 19, 2026, marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary.
