Following the big news that Tom Cruise signed a non-exclusive mega deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount is quick to get the word out that Top Gun 3 is in development.
Tuesday saw it announced that Tom Cruise will jointly develop and produce original and franchise theatrical films which he will star in starting this year in partnership with WBD.
At the time, the official announcement made no mention that Tom Cruise will continue to work with other studios, only the trades reported Cruise would still be working with Paramount and Universal.
What is Top Gun 3 about?
So Top Gun 3 is happening as Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger is currently writing a draft of the script.
The flick is said to see Tom Cruise reuniting with Miles Teller and Glen Powell as well as producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison. Joe Kosinski, will reportedly either direct or produce.
Cruise is also filming Mission: Impossible 8 for Paramount.
Regarding Universal, Cruise is developing that $200 Million space film with Doug Liman and Elon Musk.
Top Gun: Maverick brought in nearly $1.5 billion at the box office in 2022 and followed the original from 1986 that in today’s dollars nearly brought in a billion.
