Paramount officially confirmed Top Gun 3 at CinemaCon, with Paramount film co-head Josh Greenstein saying the sequel is in development and that a script is underway, reuniting Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
No director was named as part of the update.
The announcement isn’t a surprise, but it does make things official in a bigger way.
Top Gun 3 had already been reported to be in the works back in 2024, when Ehren Kruger was said to be writing a script for the follow-up, with Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell all expected to return.
CinemaCon now shows Paramount is ready to start talking about it publicly as part of its theatrical slate.

Top Gun: Maverick made a sequel inevitable
There was always going to be another movie after the huge success of Top Gun: Maverick.
Released in 2022, the sequel became a massive global hit and brought in $1.5 billion at the box office.
It also reminded Hollywood that Tom Cruise could still open a huge event movie and that audiences would show up for the right theatrical experience.
Top Gun: Maverick was directed by Joseph Kosinski and followed Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he returned to train a new generation of elite pilots for a dangerous mission.
The movie also brought back Val Kilmer as Iceman and introduced key new characters played by Miles Teller, Glen Powell, and Monica Barbaro.
