Thor: Ragnarok continues to hammer home the dollars for Marvel Studios as it brought in $46.8 million for its Friday opening, which includes the $14.5 million from its Thursday night preview.
The film is now on track to bring in around $115 million for its opening weekend, which would put it right around Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s $117 million.
Thor: Ragnarok has also received an “A” CinemaScore from opening day moviegoers and sits at 93% at Rotten Tomatoes with 89% of fans stating they liked it.
The first Thor movie opened to $65.7 million, and Thor: The Dark World opened to $85.7 million, so we see Thor: Ragnarok is a huge improvement on those numbers.
Marvel Studios has to be happy with those numbers, and there is even talk of bringing back Taika Waititi for not Thor 4, but Thor: Ragnarok 2.
“Yeah, people ask me, ‘would you do another one,’ and for sure I’d do another one because it wouldn’t even feel like doing a fourth Thor film, it would just feel like doing the second Ragnarok film.” Waititi recently told Screen Rant. “Cuz it does feel like in a way, yeah there’s been this reinvention in an exciting way … So it’s exciting cuz it feels like, if Chris were to do this again it wouldn’t feel like ‘oh it’s the eighth time I’ve done Thor,’ no it will feel like the second or third time I’ve done this character. Same with Mark [Ruffalo].”
Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo will also be back for The Avengers: Infinity War movies.
Thor: Raganarok has a November 3, 2017 release directed by Taika Waititi starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk/Banner, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Sam Neill in an unknown role.
Thor’s world is about to explode in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok. His devious brother, Loki, has taken over Asgard, the powerful Hela has emerged to steal the throne for herself and Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe. To escape captivity and save his home from imminent destruction, Thor must first win a deadly alien contest by defeating his former ally and fellow Avengers… The Incredible Hulk!
