Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is set to make its theatrical preview debut with an extended IMAX trailer, exclusively at select 70mm screenings.
Universal will roll out the prologue—nearly six minutes long—starting December 12, ahead of two upcoming IMAX titles: Sinners and One Battle After Another.
Six-Minute Prologue for IMAX 70mm
The six-minute extended look is exclusive to IMAX 70mm screens, the same format used to shoot The Odyssey entirely.
Nolan’s commitment to film and scale continues, with this being his second full-length project captured entirely with IMAX cameras, following Oppenheimer.
Fans attending 70mm IMAX showings of Sinners and One Battle After Another will be the first to see footage, which will reportedly include the Trojan War aftermath, as well as glimpses of Matt Damon’s Odysseus setting sail and Robert Pattinson’s Antinous plotting back in Ithaca.

Shorter Version Playing Before Avatar: Fire and Ash
A shorter version of the trailer will play in standard screenings starting December 19, ahead of all showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
However, the extended trailer will continue to play in front of IMAX versions of the James Cameron film, giving fans an incentive to seek out the premium format.
Designed for the Big Screen
Nolan has once again built his film with the theatrical experience in mind.
The Odyssey was shot entirely on large-format film stock, including IMAX 70mm. The trailer rollout reflects that intent, giving audiences a chance to preview the scale, sound, and practical effects on screens designed to handle it.
The Odyssey opens July 17, 2026, from Universal Pictures.
