The Equalizer 3 starring Denzel Washington is now playing in theaters this weekend, which means its Rotten Tomatoes Score is in, and it happens to be the best of the franchise in terms of both the critics and fans’ responses.
The flick currently has a 75% Rotten Tomatoes Score from critics and a favorable 91% Audience Score from the fans.
The first movie is at 61% and 76%, with the sequel at 52%, and 60%.
I loved the first movie, so The Equalizer 3 might even be better.
Box office:
The Equalizer 3 also netted $3.8 million in Thursday previews, another franchise-best (Equalizer 2 $3.1M), and is expected to bring in $30M-$40M for the 4-day opening holiday weekend.
Update: Projections offer an opening of $42 million or more.
The first film released back in 2013 opened with $34.1 million and finished with $192.3 million worldwide.
The Equalizer 2 released in 2018 opened with $36 million and wound up with a worldwide gross of $190.4 million.
What is The Equalizer 3 about?
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.
The film is expected to be released on September 1, 2023, and is directed by Antoine Fuqua and also stars Dakota Fanning and David Denman. The movies are based on the television series created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim.
