Reviews:

The Crow is from director Rupert Wyatt and stars Bill Skarsgård as the titular character and FKA twigs as his girlfriend, Shelly.

The plot follows soulmates Eric and Shelly, who after being brutally murdered, Eric is given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself. He sets out to seek revenge, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

The negative reviews (see below) follow a Hollywood writer stating the flick is horrible and unwatchable. The original director has also gone on record stating the reboot shouldn’t have been made.

The first trailer which has 7 million views on the official Lionsgate YouTube channel also has 117k dislikes to 116k likes.

Box office:

The Crow opens Aug. 23. The current opening box estimates are $5M – $10M. It’s reported The Crow‘s Thursday preview only brought in $650,000. Saturday update: Looking like a $4.5M-$5M opening box office weekend.

“THE CROW 2.0 achieves a special kind of depressing IP math: a decade-plus of development, 26 credited producers, countless scenes devoid of connective narrative tissue, adding up to 111 incompetent, soulless minutes,” states the review from The Globe and Mail.

The ReelRoundup also says, “A downgrade from the 1994 original, #TheCrow is a bland remake that’s only partially redeemed by its extremely bloody and insanely gory action sequences. Still, audiences are better off without this utterly unnecessary cinematic resurrection.”

The Crow is a big dud. Quite boring – drags for the first 40 minutes & includes unlikable characters with hollow motives. The acting is also weak – with the lead channeling Anakin’s delivery from the prequels. Only bright spot: a bloody action sequence towards the end,” says Fico Cangiano on X of CineXpress.

A review even offers it’s a bad as Lionsgate’s Borderlands.

“The Crow is almost on par with Borderlands for being one of the worst adaptations of 2024, maybe of the decade,” tweeted Vex Electronica.
