The Acolyte Season 2 seems in doubt once again as Tuesday sees the finale, yet Disney has not made an announcement about a second season.
The show cost well north of $200 million, according to rumors, but the viewership is known to be among the bottom of the Disney+ Star Wars shows.
As I went over, just recently saw it learned that 75% of Star Wars fans that tuned in for The Mandalorian didn’t bother watching The Acolyte.
The series also appears to be losing even more of the Star Wars audience as the season progresses.
The Acolyte supporters forced to admit things are bad
Regarding The Acolyte Season 2, you know it’s bad when the show’s supporters admit things haven’t been good and turn their back.
I believe Grace Randolph, who was a big supporter of The Acolyte, has now changed her tune with the release of the latest episodes.
Likewise, now a writer for Forbes, a “Senior Contributor,” has seen the light (welcome to the party, pal).
Oddly, the writer actually wasn’t a big fan of the first two episode premiere as he wrote an article titled, “The Acolyte’s Twin Concept Sputters In Its Debut.”
However, the writer quickly changed his tune and posted a slew of overwhelmingly supportive articles of The Acolyte, which also attacked the fanbase for not liking the show.
The articles written include, “The Acolyte’s 15% Audience Score Is Embarrassing, For The Audience Scorers” and “The Acolyte’ Star Reacts To Toxic Fan Attacks With A Music Video.” There is mention of a “Best Episode Yet,” “Sexiest Sith,” and even “Super-Sith.” Additional articles include “Professional ‘Acolyte’ Haters Fall For Fake Rotten Tomatoes Controversy,” and “‘The Acolyte’ Reveals Its True Villain At Last In A Stunning Episode.”
Now things have changed.
The Acolyte Season 2 Looks Increasingly Unlikely
The writer’s latest article, which uses the 75% stat I first revealed, is titled, “Why ‘The Acolyte’ Season 2 Looks Increasingly Unlikely.”
The article questions “Will The Acolyte get a season 2?”
Rather funny is that the writer says the last few episodes of The Acolyte are “excellent” and that as a result, he went from being “mixed” to a full on “supporter.” However, the writer goes on to admit that while he would like to see the show continue, “that seems exceedingly unlikely based on what we know.”
The writer then goes over what I first did a week ago blaming the low viewership on The Acolyte Season 2 not happening. Also, just as the fans have been stating all along, the Forbes writer admits The Acolyte doesn’t have “sky-high reviews” and doesn’t have “massive praise” and that “no one is saying it’s anywhere close to the quality level of Andor” (which is getting a Season 2).
Leslye Headland doubts The Acolyte Season 2
Showrunner Leslye Headland also previously doubted The Acolyte Season 2 would happen as she mentioned IF while discussing a potential second season: “If we get a season 2,” she told EW.com, and again said ”if we get one.”
Headland also said, “I’ll tell you my philosophy on first seasons. Something that I’ve noticed is first seasons will end on what should have been the break into act two. It feels like everyone’s really expecting to get a second season, and I don’t feel that’s a good idea. I think you should put everything you can into the first season.”
Headland also admitted to EW that she hasn’t worked on The Acolyte Season 2:
I threw everything into season 1, because who knows what’s going to happen?” she said. “And then I’d say there are four to five major mysteries and plot points that have to get hit in season 2, but until we get a proper pickup, I worry that spending a lot of time in that world — especially being in a period where I’ve worked so long on this project that honestly I’m exhausted by it coming out — to kind of jump right into like, “All right, season 2….” It will probably be more that I know what needs to happen, and I know what the character development needs to be in order to hit the plot points and the character points for a second, third, or fourth season. So I look forward to working on that, but right now, I haven’t.
