Now Batman Vs. Superman Compared To Man of Steel: “Suits Nervous”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24372:]]

We’ve all heard the rumor WB is worried about Batman Vs. Superman; then we all heard about the perceived notion WB is concerned about the popcorn Marvel movie audience, and now Latino Review is adding their two cents.

According to the site, “concerned” is a better word than “worried,” which makes sense as Batman Vs. Superman is a new movie with a super high budget.

It’s said the budget for Batman Vs. Superman has “ballooned” north of $400 million, and for the movie to be considered a success, it would have to make more than a billion dollars at the box office.

According to an “insider,” problems could arise with Batman Vs. Superman as – similar to Man of Steel – it could split the audience. It’s said Man of Steel wasn’t the “universal crowd pleaser” WB wanted, which is a “trend” that could continue with Batman Vs. Superman.

It’s further said Batman Vs. Superman may not be for everyone or as easily accessible, which is making the suits a bit nervous. It’s said Zack Snyder may have made “another difficult film,” with DC having to keep a close eye on what works and what doesn’t.

Regarding the comparison to Man of Steel, as I previously pointed out, Man of Steel started out with a bang but ended with a whimper as it only made $668 million – and not the billion WB hoped for – which is why Batman was added to the sequel.

Latino Review goes on to state Justice League is “absolutely happening” following Batman Vs. Superman, and that the solo Ben Affleck Batman movie is not replacing Justice League‘s release date (JL is already in production).

Depending on how well Batman Vs. Superman does or does not do, it’s said the Justice League movie universe could end up getting retooled.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. No Big Batman Vs. Superman Surprise On Good Morning America

Batman Vs. Superman Final Trailer

This morning saw the stars of Batman Vs. Superman, Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, appear on Good Morning America where it’s been teased that a “big surprise will knock you out.”

Well, there was no surprise.

Affleck and Cavill appeared in a short interview with no new footage and nothing new really offered. They joked about Affleck getting advice from Clooney (couldn’t be repeated) and Bale (have a zipper in the Batsuit) as well as how they can make Batman fighting Supes (as Cavill referred to Superman) work on the big screen (because they have a story to tell – they all laughed).

Super bummer, guys.

I’m actually guessing there may have been more to this event than what was originally planned. We know free tickets were given away which was described as “GMA’s Giant Batman Vs. Superman Event” for yesterday; however, according to various reports, fans that received the tickets were e-mailed the event was cancelled, only to find out it was post-posted(?) until today. Obviously if tickets were going to be given away, a live audience would be present for the Affleck and Cavill interview, which didn’t happen.

While this was a disappointment, last night saw images leak from an official Batman Vs. Superman book which offers some cool new looks at Batman, Superman and more.

Tom Welling Doesn’t Think His Superman Exists In Supergirl Universe

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24319:]]

The last couple of weeks have seen talk about Smallville‘s Tom Welling potentially appearing on the new CBS Supergirl TV series.

While nothing official has been taking place (at least that we know of), that hasn’t stopped fans speculating about the possibility, which on more than one occasion has reached former super ears of Welling.

Welling previously offered at first he felt it might be odd to reprise as Superman for Supergirl, and most recently stated if given the opportunity, he would need a little notice to fit into the tights.

Now in an interview with BirthMoviesDeath, Tom Welling says he doesn’t think Smallville exists in the same universe as Supergirl.

“I do enjoy it. It’s got a different angle, a more comedic angle, of course. It’s telling the story in a different way, and I don’t think it’s a world that I ever existed in with Clark because they’re two different shows. There’s really nothing in common, there are no parallels at all. I say that being a fan of what they’re doing. I think they’re doing a great job.”

Tom Welling does go on to note he feels the success of Smallville and the people that worked on the series is in part responsible for the current DC TV universe of Supergirl, Flash and Arrow with specific mention of Glen Winter.

You know, the success of Smallville is directly correlated to The Flash or Arrow – that genre that Warner Bros has been able to do. I do feel proud that it started with us, but it wasn’t just because of us. I think technology and timing – we were suddenly able to do things in television that were, until then, only available in film because of how expensive they were. So we were lucky to be able to have that timing. A lot of the people who worked on Smallville, it’s a lot of the same crew on Supernatural, The Flash, Arrow. Glen Winter is now the god that we all knew he was, and it all started with Smallville. He’s a genius, and he’s earned everything that he has. He’s so creative, and such a great guy. Glen Winter is somebody who hasn’t been singled out yet by anyone, but if you look at what he did on Smallville and then Flash and Arrow, he’s the throughline.”

While Welling’s Smallville may not be a part of Supergirl, that doesn’t necessarily mean the actor can’t be a part of the universe. Just this past week saw confirmation of the DC multiverse on The Flash (check out all the Easter Eggs), so it’s possible Tom Welling could always appear on Supergirl as another character (how about Zod?).

TV Fan Blasts Marc Guggenheim “Over Slap To The Face” Because Of Suicide Squad Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24214:]]

I always love when I hear executives state the movies don’t affect the comics or TV universes.

Case in point: Current Marvel Comics EIC Axel Alonso regularly states the movies don’t affect the comics. We know that isn’t true as Matt Fraction stated the Thor movie interfered with how he wrote his Thor comic; we know Abnett and Lanning were kicked off their Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova comics because of Gunn’s film; we know the Inhumans are replacing the X-Men, and we know Marvel Comics cancelled the Fantastic Four because of the Fox movie. We also know the last ten or so years has seen Marvel Comics focus on the Avengers, and not the X-Men. And Steve Roger is returning as Captain America.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24220:]]

Regarding the DC Comics, legendary creator George Perez was pretty clear when he stated the Man of Steel people messed with his New 52 Superman comic, which is why he left.

And we also know the same happens with the DC TV universe.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24223:]]

Because of the Suicide Squad movie, Deadshot is “off the table,” Harley Quinn was shelved, and with the recent death of Amanda Waller in Arrow, it’s easy to guess the same thing happened with her character. Batman and Superman are also off limits for the Flash and Arrow universe, and Arrow couldn’t use Blue Beetle, so they went with Atom instead. Now it’s learned Deadstroke is also shelved (see below).

We can also speculate as a result of the new Green Lantern Corps movie, that now Green Lantern is also off limits.

There has been some online chatter amongst fans asking why this is the case — as the DC execs regularly state the movie and TV universes are separate. Zack Snyder recently said more of the same. So why then can’t they have the same characters? If I had to guess, my answer as to why the TV characters are being shelved is not to compete with their movie counterparts. We can probably thank Grant Gustin’s Flash for that. I’ve said it before, I think DC has finally found their “Spider-Man” with Grant Gustin as Barry Allen and The Flash. The series is popular amongst casual fans, young fans, hard core fans and older fans (WB really needs to start heavily promoting Gustin and the series). I think WB is going to find it difficult to sell the Ezra Miller Flash to the fanbase. We see they have already started spinning that we should accept Miller because there are different universes. Ezra Miller has probably been coached on the topic as in interviews he’s mentioned multiple realities/universes/dimensions. The controversy has even caused Grant Gustin to come out and tell fans that he supports Miller.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24218:]]

Now executive producer Marc Guggenheim is feeling the heat as fans asked and complained on Tumblr about the TV characters getting the axe, specifically the Arrow Suicide Squad characters with Deadshot, Deathstroke and Amanda Waller.

Fan #1: Any possible chance of either Slade or Walter returning throughout the rest of Season 4? #Arrow

MG: The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project.  Walter is more likely.

Fan #2: You said that only Deadshot was off-limits, and Amanda Waller & Deathstroke are safe. But you guys killed Waller off just like that, and she doesn’t seem like she will ever return(Because bullet to head). Who’s next to be killed off? Katana? Once Deathstroke arrives in the DC movie, will he be also killed off too? This is really frustrating, that all awesome characters are being written off, because of the Suicide Squad movie, and is a slap to the face of Arrow fans.

MG: Um… I never said that.

Arrow‘s Stephen Amell, who may just be as frustrated as a lot of fans are (Amell has been vocal about wanting to be in Justice League with Gustin as the movie Flash), recently stated in an interview he thinks Arrow is missing Deathstroke.

“Manu [Bennett] is a character, and Manu played a great character. And I really honestly think that Arrow has been missing something since he hasn’t been around. I really do. He was a transformative villain. I would really love it if Deathstroke could keep being a part of the Arrow universe,” Amell said.

Sorry to say, Stephen, per Guggenheim’s words, that isn’t going to be the case. Let’s just hope Green Arrow doesn’t appear in the DCCU any time soon, eh?

Max Landis Responds To Zack Snyder’s Superman Is Canon In Man Of Steel Claim

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24170:]]

Zack Snyder is drawing some heat online regarding his recent statement about his Superman in Man of Steel being comic book canon.

“If you actually read Comics, you know I didn’t change Superman,” Snyder told the Hall Of Justice podcast.

Now big-time Superman fan, Hollywood screenwriter, and writer of the DC Comics Superman: American Alien comic book, Max Landis, takes to Twitter to comment on Snyder’s remarks.

Below you can check out the tweets, which includes mention Snyder’s remark is: “…one of the strangest claims I’ve ever heard a director make: that they did the ‘canon’ version of a multicanon character…”

Regarding Snyder’s comments about keeping the characters in the movies “canon,” we can’t help but ask does the same apply to Doomsday and Aquaman?

Anyway… below you can also check out Landis’ popular “Death and Return of Superman” pitch as well as his Man of Steel reaction video following the tweets.

Zack Snyder Talks About DC TV Universe & Batman Vs. Superman Justice League Prequel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22035:]]

Check out the “Hall of Justice” podcast below featuring director Zack Snyder talking about Batman Vs. Superman, Justice League and the DC TV Universe.

Highlights include Snyder talking about whether or not the DC TV universe effects the movies:

This is the bottom line for me. I have 100% respect and love for what they’re doing on TV. I think it’s amazing. The joy and the fun of them speaks to the iconic, graphic nature of these characters. These characters are bigger than any of the actors playing them. Long after I’m done making a Batman v Superman movie, there will be someone else who makes it. It’s almost like an American tradition now we’ve established that these characters will be played again and again, and they exist outside of us in this moment.

I think that’s sort of the thing I’ve embraced, and as opposed to trying to shoehorn all of these storylines into a single universe, we let the characters exist in multi-universe, and therefore it’s a lot more fun and a lot more value for the audience. They get to see their favourite and most beloved characters on different adventures at the same time in different universes and it really makes the meal a lot richer and a lot more fun. We get to go with these guys in all different directions and that’s really the joy of what we’re trying to do over here at DC.

Snyder also talks about the controversial reception of Man of Steel noting that “if you actually read Comics, you know I didn’t change Superman.” Snyder continues with talk of how he is a big comic book fan and wants to keep the characters in the movies similar to comic book canon. Snyder also says he considers Batman Vs. Superman a Justice League prequel; that they do go into Batman and Superman’s backstory, and that the other Justice League members are only touched upon in Batman V Superman while noting the Wonder Woman movie goes into her story.

Snyder also mentions he and Chrisopher Nolan talked about using a new Batman, as Superman wouldn’t fit into The Dark Knight Universe.

Superman Gets Another New Power In Action Comics #48

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24122:]]

Spoilers follow for this week’s Superman Action Comics #48.

Quick recap: Superman has been pretty powerless as of late because, among other things, Vandal Savage stole his power. So the Man of Steel comes up with the idea to use Kryptonite to burn away his top layer of skin cells that are preventing him from soaking up the yellow sun energy. Well, things don’t go exactly as planned and Superman is left with a new power.

Instead of his skin cells dieing off, they absorbed the kryptonite, which now gives him the ability to “feel transmissions… energy waves… from all over the world… including signals…”

Check out the pages below.

It’s being speculated Superman may be soon returning to his “normal self” with the upcoming DC relaunch, “Rebirth.”

Action Comics #50 also marks Greg Pak’s last issue.

Tom Welling Again Talks Supergirl (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24120:]]

About a week ago saw Tom Welling discuss the possibility of appearing in the new Supergirl series, and now Welling is asked again by Access Hollywood, with this time seeming a bit more open to it.

“Yeah! I’ve gotten a lot of questions about that, and the funny thing is, I’ve never been asked,” Welling said. “They’ve never asked me. So, we’ll see. It’s a great show; I’ve seen it.”

Welling also added he would like to “get a little notice” before slipping into the tights.

It’s been thrown out there that Welling could possibly play Superman in Supergirl as  the Man of Steel is presently featured as a blur in the series – Welling was known in Smallville was as The Blur.

Welling previously offered about appearing in Supergirl:

“There’s people who would like it. There’s people who don’t like it. But I will tell you that no one has ever asked me to do it. So, I don’t know. It would be kind of odd. I don’t know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman…”

If fans do indeed want to see Tom Welling on Supergirl, get on Twitter and tweet at Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg.

Henry Cavill Talks Batman Vs. Superman From Empire Magazine

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24049:]]

Check out the images (click any image for super high-res) and quotes from Henry Cavill’s interview in Empire Magazine for Batman Vs. Superman.

Henry Cavill On Superman:

“We see the reaction of Lex Luthor, and the reaction of Batman. And the reaction of Baman to this god-like being.”

“People have begun to fear him. Is he too powerful? Is he, in fact, a tyrant?”

“He’s more used to this gig, doing his best to save as many lives as he can. He is no longer frantic. He’s no longer a wet-behind-the-ears kind of superhero.”

Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck:

Snyder: “Can we really assume Superman will never turn on us?”

Affleck: “Sо it’s аbоut twо hеrоеs whо cаn bе sееn аs hеrоic аnd villаinоus, аnd whеn yоu lооk аt thе dоublе-еdgеd swоrd оf thаt, diffеrеnt pеоplе will cоmе аwаy lооking аt it vеry diffеrеntly.”

Affleck: “Rаthеr thаn just Аliеn Vs. Prеdаtоr, whеrе yоu hаvе twо mоnstеrs аnd thеy’rе gоnnа fight, yоu hаvе twо pеоplе whо rеаlly truly bеliеvе thеy аrе dоing sоmеthing hеrоic аnd nеcеssаry in thеir cоnflict.”

Affleck: “Batman has seen the devastation that comes from aliens battling on Earth. He thinks Superman is attracting flies to our planet. He is basically a beacon.”

Henry Cavill on Clark Kent:

“He is the human side of the character, but there is often this idea that Clark and Superman must be so different.  He’s being himself, only he’s presenting a different front while he’s in these different outfits. He can only get away with wearing glasses so much. If he’s drawing attention to himself by being clumsy, that’s not going to work. We don’t want to be jokers.”

Henry Cavill on Lois Lane:

“It’s not a normal relationship. How could it be? One of them is an alien.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24050:]]

Henry Cavill On Batman:

“He doesn’t agree with his form of justice. For this farm boy who tries to do things the right way, justice at any cost is not something he can come to terms with.”

Cavill notes that instead of Superman bullying Batman by simply defeating him, he uses Clark Kent to “..show the world what this Batman dude is doing.”

“It’s the human outlook on Superman and that is why such a major thing happens. It’s not about one on one. Of course Superman is going to win, but it’s deeper than that. It’s more that these two great powers exist and are actually trying to achieve the same thing, but in such different ways.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24051:]]

Miscellaneous:

Cavill: “I don’t do push-ups. (prefers three hours a day on the on-site gym). Zack does a lot of push-ups on set, though. He started a push-up cult.”

Cavill: “It’s not as if I am going to be able to play a POW and then Superman again. (Cavill put on 30 lbs). My commitment lies with this first.”

Cavill: “He’s always in there. It sits there simmering at ten percent all the time and then when it comes to acting, you just crank it up to 100 percent.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24052:]]

Henry Cavill on the Dawn of Justice League:

“There are hero moments where it looks like a hero moment. It doesn’t look like a bum saving a bunch of people then disappearing into the shadows. We’re introducing a potential long-term villain (Lex Luthor), we’re introducing Batman, and we’re introducing Wonder Woman. This is the Dawn of Justice.”

“It’s a bunch of people who are all used to getting their own way, so we’ll see how they interact. And the guy who can kick anyone’s ass is the nice one.”

Tom Welling Talks Possibly Reprising As Superman For “Supergirl”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24022:]]

We already know that Superman is a part of the CBS Supergirl universe as footage has featured the Man of Steel, albeit in more of a blurry form.

Speaking of The Blur, the actor who played Clark Kent and Superman on Smallville for ten seasons, Tom Welling, comments on potentially reprising the character for the new Supergirl series.

“There’s people who would like it. There’s people who don’t like it,” Welling told Buzz Feed. “But I will tell you that no one has ever asked me to do it. So, I don’t know. It would be kind of odd. I don’t know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman…”

As seen in the final episode of Smallville, Welling would don the familar red and blue cape and costume and fly off as Superman. Perhaps Welling, now 38 years old, if not as Superman, could guest star as a different character. The Supergirl show already featured former Lois and Clark Superman, Dean Cain, as well as former Supergirl, Helen Slater, from the 1984 film.

Check out a scene featuring Superman saving Supergirl below as well as a Tom Welling Superman tribute video.

Suicide Squad’s Viola Davis Picks Batman in “Dawn of Justice”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:24019:]]

A few days ago saw Zack Snyder ask fans to choose their side for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Now Suicide Squad‘s Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) weighs in on the debate and chooses Batman.

“You’re asking a girl. A girls love Batman. They love Batman,” Davis offered to Empire Magazine. “You ask any woman, ‘Batman or Superman?’ It’s always going to be Batman. It’s the mask. It’s the muscles. It’s the car. Come on, it’s the Batmobile. The Batcave! Batman, man. Batman is hot. Superman needs a car. And the tights don’t work for me.”

It probably should be noted Batman does appear in Suicide Squad (probably doesn’t make a difference, though).

Empire also caught up with Jake Gyllenhaal (up to play Batman at one time), Matt Damon and Amy Schumer. See their picks below.

“Batman Vs. Superman” has a March 25, 2016 release; “Suicide Squad” hits August 5th.

DC Comics Rumored To Relaunch Again

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23960:]]

Update: DC Comics and Jim Lee have released a “Rebirth” teaser image, which can be found below.

Update #2: Scott Snyder rumored off Batman, moving to Detective Comics.

Update #3: Titans rumored to drop “Teen.”

It’s being said that DC Comics is going to relaunch their line of comic books yet again.

Following the New 52 relaunch back in 2011, now Bleeding Cool is stating DC will relaunch this June with a batch of all-new #1 issues.

It’s said to expect the popular titles to dominate the line even more (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn/Suicide Squad-related titles).

It’s also said that any of the titles that tie into the movies and TV shows “will be okay” (Flash, Arrow, etc).

It also seems insinuated something may be up in regards to Green Lantern, as it is noted nothing has been “heard about Green Lantern…”

Sales on DC Comics have been pretty poor as of late, with it partially being blamed on the move to the West Coast. In addition, the latest DC initiatives and events (DCYOU and Convergence) have failed to be a hit with readers and retailers alike.

Update: Jim Lee shared the following:
