James Gunn is calling for calm as fans stir up a Marvel vs. DC fight over Superman and The Fantastic Four, both set to hit theaters in July.
When asked about the so-called superhero showdown, Gunn responded on Threads, saying there’s room for both movies, and showed support for his former Marvel colleagues.
What Did James Gunn Say?
A fan asked Gunn on Threads if he had anything to say about The Fantastic Four, Marvel’s upcoming July release. The question hinted at growing chatter online comparing Marvel’s reboot to DC’s Superman reboot, both big summer releases.
Gunn replied:
“They come out two weeks after us – there’s room for us both! I love my friends at Marvel. You can find whatever discussions you’d want to find online. I’d focus on all the positivity around the films instead of getting sucked up in online fan wars.”

Marvel vs. DC back on
With Superman hitting theaters July 11 and The Fantastic Four following on July 25, fans are naturally drawing battle lines. It’s not the first time Marvel and DC have gone head-to-head at the box office, and it won’t be the last. But Gunn’s comment tries to redirect attention away from fan feuds and back onto the films themselves.
DC vs. Marvel is actually back on, not only in the movies, but both companies jointly announced the Batman vs Deadpool crossover in the comics.

Gunn’s Marvel History
While Gunn now runs DC Studios, he’s no stranger to Marvel. He wrote and directed the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and the Holiday Special and worked closely with Kevin Feige and the Marvel creative team for nearly a decade. Gunn also produced Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame and the I Am Groot Disney+ special.
