Big News Coming at NYCC Says Batman Producer Michael Uslan

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22254:]]

Big news is coming at next week’s New York Comic-Con regarding what could possibly be the next Batman movie.

Michael Uslan, who has been a producer on every Batman movie, told USA Today: “On Saturday October 10 we plan on making a major announcement. Stay tuned. Join us at 1:45 p.m. in one of the large rooms. You won’t want to miss what’s going to take place there.”

More than likely the large room Uslan is talking about is the “Batman: The Bat Universe” panel, which takes place that same Saturday on the Empire Stage at the NYCC Javits Center. Here is the official description:

A veritable who’s who of Bat-talent will gather together in Gotham for “DC Comics – Batman: The Bat-Universe.” Explore the latest adventures of the World’s Greatest Detective with Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo (BATMAN), Amy Chu (POISON IVY: CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEATH), Khary Randolph (WE ARE ROBIN), Tom King and Tim Seeley (GRAYSON), Peter Tomasi (BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT), and James Tynion IV (BATMAN ETERNAL), and be the first to witness never-before-seen art and breaking Batman news.  Saturday, 1:30 pm, Empire Stage 1E.

It’s pure speculation, but Uslan may be talking about the standalone Ben Affleck Batman movie that has recently been rumored. Affleck has been said to be attached to three Batman movies in which he will star and direct.

Of course, the announcement could be about a number of things as Uslan is also involved with Batman Vs. Superman. It’s possible the news could be Justice League related or about another DC movie.

Cosmic Book News will be in attendance at the NYCC. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep up with all the news as it happens.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Wonder Woman: Earth One OGN Cover Revealed

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22222:]]

DC Comics revealed the cover and info for the upcoming Grant Morrison Wonder Woman Earth One original graphic novel.

Yanick Paquette created the cover (via Hit Fix) and is doing the interior art as well.

The OGN goes on sale April 12, 2016.

Synopsis:

From the masterful minds of Grant Morrison (FINAL CRISIS, THE MULTIVERSITY) and Yanick Paquette (SWAMP THING, BATMAN, INC.) comes the most provocative origin of Wonder Woman you’ve ever seen — a wholly unique retelling that still honors her origins.

For millennia, the Amazons of Paradise Island have created a thriving society away from the blight of man. One resident, however, is not satisfied with this secluded life — Diana, Princess of the Amazons, knows there is more in this world and wants to explore, only to be frustrated by her protective mother, Hippolyta. Diana finds her escape when Air Force pilot Steve Trevor, the first man she has ever seen, crashes onto their shores. With his life hanging in the balance, Diana ventures into the long forbidden world of men. The Amazons chase after her and bring her back to Paradise Island in chains to face trial for breaking their oldest law…staying separated from the world that wronged them.

Thought provoking yet reverent, thoroughly modern but still timeless, the power and courage of Paradise Island’s greatest champion — Wonder Woman — is introduced in this new addition to DC’s New York Times best selling Earth One original graphic novel series.

Retailers Slam DC Comics New 52 & DC YOU

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22204:]]

With DC Comics recently cancelling five titles, and then uncancelling Omega Men, in addition to recent negative comments from comics writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and rumors of DC being $2 million in the hole, now comes the retailer side of things.

Sktchd.com caught up with five retailers inquiring about their thoughts on the New 52 as well as the new DC YOU initiative, which has been rumored to be dumped by DC (and un-rumored).

I’ll just grab a few excerpts from the interview; you can check out the interview via the link above.

On expectations going into the DC YOU:

…ordered stronger on the #1s than the ones that had continuations in numbering.

With the number or relaunches (and) reboots in the last few years we had zero expectations going into it.

…the expectations for DC You were low.

After much disappointment (and diminishing returns) from DC’s New 52, I wasn’t overly optimistic about their new DC You initiative.

Our expectations were low, but optimistic, if possible to be both.

The books have been not selling well at all.

I wish I had better news, but the response hasn’t been great … Interest in DC Comics has continued to drop and I don’t think the DC You initiative was enough to reinvigorate it again.

None of the new titles are doing well at all, while we like a couple of them, none seem to be resonating with our readers.

People are just sick of relaunches. And the talent on many of these books is, quite frankly, subpar.

I think there’s almost a vote of no confidence against DC these days.

I don’t see these books selling better as collections. Why would they? A bad book is a bad book.

DC Comics Omega Men Will Continue To Issue #12

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22179:]]

A few days ago saw word hit that DC Comics is cancelling five titles with Omega Men amongst the list.

Fan outcry ensued, which saw DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio responding that it was a “tough decision,” but that sales dropped quicker than expected.

The good news is that DC has listened to the fans and has decided to give Omega Men at least a full 12 issues.

Jim Lee, DiDio’s fellow DC Comics co-publisher, tweeted they are continuing Omega Men — all because of the fans.

Omega Men is written by Tom King with art by Barnaby Bagenda.

King is excited by the news as well: “You asked. It happened. Thank you so much. DCYou. Hell yeah,” King posted on Twitter.

You can catch up on Omega Men through DC Digital. The next issue, Omega Men #5, hits October 7th.

DC Comics Cancelling 5 Titles As Of December

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22101:]]

It’s learned DC Comics is cancelling five titles as of December with Justice League United, Gotham By Midnight, The Omega Men, Lobo and Doomed.

All of the titles except for Justice League United are selling less than 20k as of July, so the news shouldn’t be all that surprising.

In the case of Lobo, which is the lowest selling of the five with less than 13k, DC rebooted the character with more of a Twilight/Elvis look, with most fans not being too happy about the change in direction of the Main Man.

It’s also learned Catwoman will have a new creative team as of December’s issue #47 with writer Frank Tieri and artist Inaki Miranda on board.

As CBR notes, the creators of the above cancelled comics still have other titles in the works at DC.

Update: Regarding the cancellation of Omega Men, Dan DiDio responded as follow on Facebook to fan complaints:

It was a tough decision, we all felt the series had great potential, but sales dropped from issue to issue quicker than expected.

Awesome Joker Halloween Lawn Ornament From Batman: Death Of The Family

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22044:]]

Halloween is right around the corner, and what better way is there to scare the little trick ‘r treaters in your neighborhood than with the Batman: Death of The Family Joker lawn ornament?!

Check out pics below.

It’s actually not a bad price at $89.99 at Think Geek.

Details:

GUESS WHO’S BACK… IN YOUR YARD

So there was no Joker for quite a while, and then there was a LOT of Joker. He was all over the place when the “A Death in the Family” story arc began.

Just like this yard decoration. There is (presumably) no Joker in your garden currently. But if you get this there could suddenly be a LOT of Joker. From shoulders up, this DC The Joker Ground Breaker “rises” out of your flower garden to terrify your trick or treaters. It’d be awesome to put him out with a motion sensitive spotlight, so he suddenly appears when they walk by. Imagine the faces they’ll make! (Click and drag your mouse across the white space below for the spoiler joke.)

No really. Imagine the faces they’ll make. On a platter.
