James Gunn takes to Threads to thank fans as the co-head of the new DCU says his Superman trailer is the most viewed and talked about in the entire history of DC and Warner Bros.
So that means Gunn’s Man of Steel has beat out anything put out by Zack Snyder’s own Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman Justice League, as well as the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy, and even the Harry Potter films. Worth a mention is the aforementioned didn’t have the benefit of TikTok.
Over 250 million views and a million social posts
Gunn included the new official image still of David Corenswet saving the day and said:
Krypto really did take us home: With over 250 million views and a million social posts, Superman is officially the most viewed and the most talked about trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Bros. This is because of all of you: thank you! We’re incredibly grateful and, most of all, excited to share this movie with you in July. Happy Holidays!
Answers fan questions
Gunn also confirmed an Easter Egg in the trailer which features “Ross Rd.” a nod to legendary artist Alex Ross who did the art for Kingdom Come.
Gunn also said responded that “most the Krypto moments are based on iPhone video footage of my dog Ozu (really)” when asked if his brother, Sean Gunn, played Krypto in a motion-capture suit, for the CGI, as fans know Sean played Rocket Raccoon on the set of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
YouTubers also remarked how DC is claiming copyrights on videos that review and comment on the new Superman trailer. Gunn says he’s looking into it. I know WB flagged our Facebook page when we posted the trailer, yet sites like IGN and Collider were allowed to post it (of course).
“I am trying to look into all of this to make sure it’s the best for everybody, and give us the most nuanced approach. But it might take some time,” said Gunn, and he respond in a previous post: “Just looked into it – it seems the problem is if you’re monetizing the video you can’t use the footage. If you’re not monetizing it’s all good. Sorry!”
Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
