Warner Bros. confirms progress is being made on the Superman movie, which is thought to be the new version from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates.

While attending this week’s CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, following the Warner Bros. presentation which included the announcement about The Batman 2 and the reveal of the DC trailers, Collider’s Steven Weintraub ran into WB’s Toby Emmerich and asked about the Superman movie.

“If you know me you know how much I love Superman,” tweeted Weintraub on Tuesday. “So when I saw WB Pictures Chairman Toby Emmerich tonight walked right up to him and asked about the next Superman movie. Won’t say what he said to me since it might have been off the record. But progress is being made.”

Black Superman JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates

J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates said to be going with Black Superman

Again, the Superman movie in question is thought to be the J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates movie and not another film starring Henry Cavill or Man of Steel 2.

It has been said Abrams and Coates are developing a new Black Superman in the vein of the Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner version and that it’s a period piece set in the past.

At the same time there have been all kinds of rumors about Abrams and Coates’ Superman including that it isn’t happening, but per the update above, we see that it is happening.

Rumors also offer Ta-Nehisi Coates recently turned in his ideas for the Superman movie which leaves it open for Henry Cavill to return and isn’t necessarily about a Black Superman, so maybe it isn’t a period piece.

Additional rumors also describe the flick as nerfing the Man of Steel where Superman will be a champion of the oppressed, will have anti-government views, with the movie featuring parallels to racism, and that Superman will be de-powered including not having the ability to fly.

Fans are skeptical of this new version as they want Henry Cavill to return and are hesitant due to Ta-Nehisi Coates being a left-wing activist, as much like what DC Comics did to Superman, fans are afraid Abrams and Coates will use the Man of Steel to espouse their political agendas, much like Hollywood has done with popular characters and franchises for the past few years that have failed, including Star Wars, Marvel, and DC.

Back in 2015, the Politico wrote an article on “The Toxic World-View of Ta-Nehisi Coates” due to a book Coates wrote where Coates blames white people for his physical abuse at the hands of his black father and other black people, how Coates wrote about his lone bad experience with white people where a white woman pushed his son while trying to get out of an elevator in NYC, and Coates said some really messed up things about the 911 responders.

Now the guy is writing Superman? Why? Hopefully, if Warner Bros. Discovery and David Zaslav want to make money and stop the virtue-signaling instead of creating quality content and entertainment that has been bankrupting Hollywood and various corporations, changes will be made.
