‘Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker’ Box Office Bombs On Friday

‘Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker’ Box Office Bombs On Friday

The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker box office for Friday bombs big time as it comes exceptionally under its predecessors, The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is only estimated to have a $90 million Friday opening, which includes $40 million from Thursday previews.

For comparison, The Last Jedi had a Friday opening box office of $104.68 million ($45 million from Thursday previews); The Force Awakens came in with a $119.1 million Friday opening ($57 million Thursday previews).

The Friday number for Skywalker marks a decrease of 14.02% from The Last Jedi‘s Friday box office opening and a 24.43% decrease from The Force Awakens.

Skywalker is also not doing as well for its opening weekend box office as it is now estimated to bring in around $193 million, a 12.27% drop from TLJ, and a 22.15% drop from TFA.

Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker box office fails to deliver

As I said yesterday, if Skywalker was consistent with its 11% drop for Thursday previews compared to The Last Jedi across the entire weekend, it would have brought in around $195.8 million for the weekend, but we see that Skywalker is not holding up at the box office.

Update: Saturday’s numbers are worse than thought

We can also assume that its second weekend will probably suffer a massive drop, similar to The Last Jedi which plunged 67.5%.

Things go even sourer for Skywalker as it has the second-worst CinemaScore of any of the Star Wars movies with a “B+,” Clone Wars came in with a “B-.” The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi both received an “A.”

Rotten Tomatoes also isn’t all that good as critics have given the movie a Rotten 57% score with 346 reviews accounted for; the Audience Score is vastly different, coming in at 86% positive with 19,976 fan reviews counted.

You can read my review here where I didn’t think too highly of the flick.
