Star Trek Sequel (2013): Simon Pegg Says It’s Not Khan

“It’s not Khan,” Simon Pegg told The TelegraphPegg, who plays Chief Engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott added, “That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not.”

And what is “it?”

Unless you have been living under a rock, “it” has been said that Star Trek villain Benedict Cumberbatch is playing the role of Khan Noonien Singh.

Now we first heard about the potential for the Star Trek sequel to feature Khan with mention of Benicio Del Toro; however, that role went to Cumberbatch. Or did it?

While it might not technically matter, there is an obvious ethnic difference between not only Del Toro and Cumberbatch, but original Khan played by Ricardo Montalban.

And let’s be honest, an obvious different look as well.

Of course, that doesn’t mean J.J. Abrams could not be going for a new approach to Khan, as this is essentially an all new world. But we could be seeing a different villain than Khan just the same.

Still, previously Pegg said that none of the original cast would be appearing – unless it involved time travel – but we’ve heard inklings of an original Spock appearance.

So we don’t really know if this is Abrams playing Vulcan mind games with us or not.

The as-of-yet unnamed Star Trek sequel has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain.
