The 27th season of South Park will now premiere on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central, following a schedule change from its original date of July 9.
The delay comes during a heated period of corporate change and legal disputes involving the show’s parent companies and streaming rights.
Comedy Central is owned by Paramount Global, which co-owns South Park Digital Studios with series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. That joint venture produces the animated series and controls much of its distribution.
As a result of the delay, Comedy Central has also announced Digman! Season 2 has been pushed back to July 23, airing after South Park.

Creators Blast Merger Chaos
In a blunt response on the official South Park X account, Parker and Stone blamed the ongoing corporate drama for the disruption:
“This merger is a shitshow and it’s f—ing up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”
The statement refers to the pending acquisition of Paramount Global by Skydance Media. The creators also recently threatened legal action over interference in South Park’s streaming negotiations.

Streaming Rights in Limbo
South Park’s $500 million exclusive streaming deal with HBO Max expired in late June. Paramount has said it wants the show on its own streaming service, Paramount+, and initially promised a July debut. But South Park didn’t launch on Paramount+ on July 1 as expected, creating confusion.
Behind the scenes, according to the trades, Parker and Stone’s representatives have been negotiating with multiple platforms, including Warner Bros. Discovery (parent of HBO Max) and Netflix. A legal letter surfaced claiming Paramount’s leadership tried to push for an exclusive first window on Paramount+ before allowing other platforms to carry new episodes.
For now, all 26 previous seasons of South Park remain available on Max, at least temporarily, while talks continue. Paramount+ still carries several South Park specials created exclusively for the platform.
Ongoing Production Amid Corporate Changes
South Park debuted on Comedy Central in 1997 and celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022.
Despite the ongoing issues, Parker and Stone are still actively producing new episodes alongside executive producers Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell, and Vernon Chatman also remain on the producing team. Christopher Brion continues as Creative Director of South Park Digital Studios.
