Sophie Turner will be the new Lara Croft in the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series at Amazon MGM Studio from Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The actress, known for Game of Thrones and X-Men, was first reported to be up for the role last month along with other actresses that included Lucy Boynton, Emma Corrin and Mackenzie Davis.
According to Deadline, Turner is now in negotiations for the role.
This past Halloween saw Sophie Turner suit up as Trinity from The Matrix, which sort of gives fans a look at what Sophie Turner will look like as Lara Croft as she sports dual pistols in the photos, which is likely no coincedence.
Turner is known for playing Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, and she played Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and X-Men: Apocalypse. Recently she starred in the Joan TV series, The Staircase, and Survive.
What is the Phoebe Waller-Bridge Tomb Raider series about?
It was actually reported the series might not happen, but with the casting news that doesn’t look to be the case.
The details for the Phoebe Waller-Bridge Tomb Raider series include that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) is writing and executive producing.
The series is said to be written by Megan McDonnell who is known for The Marvels, WandaVision, and Marvel’s Agatha series, with it also said McDonnell is serving as story editor and consulting producer.
Variety also previously reported on the hiring of McDonnell on Tomb Raider as a project that exemplifies “the nontraditional approach she likes to bring to boilerplate formats, be they sitcoms or superhero tentpoles.”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge also previously talked about discussing the look of Lara Croft in the writers room.
“She had an attitude. She was very deliberate in what she wanted to do. That all changed when they realized that they could market her to be a sex symbol.” Waller-Bridge said back in June.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge continued, “She’s a tomb raider, so she’s incredibly fit. She has to squeeze through tiny rock crevices all the time. It is a different experience squeezing through a small rock crevice when you have larger boobs than if you have smaller boobs.”
