Tom Rothman, head of Sony Pictures, talks with IGN in the below video about Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Rothman offers info on the movie’s title having multiple meanings, revealing a scene in the process, and also has good things to say about working with Marvel as well as new Spider-Man Tom Holland. Watch the video below. Here’s the text:

I can tease you all kinds of things… Here’s the thing I can tell you. We’re really, really fortunate on this because Marvel and Kevin Feige have really embraced the character and no one knows it as well as Marvel. It is another crown jewel of Sony’s for sure, but Homecoming, the name, is a double entendre on purpose. It’s relevant to the story, because it takes place in high school, and there is a scene, I guess I can give a little thing, at a homecoming dance. I’ve actually seen the dailies on it because we already did the high school shooting in the first couple weeks, it was fanastic. But it’s also a homecoming to Marvel and a homecoming to the cinematic universe that Spider-Man belongs in. So it’s pretty unprecented deal between two studios, we’re really proud of it, and I all I can tell you is, those guys at Marvel, I think the technical term is “they know their shit.” The other thing that’s fantastic is Civil War — is Tom Holland. Fantastic! He’s fantastic. And the reason he is is all the pre-existing movies and all incarnations, but this is it. This is that character, and it’s all of its youthful complications and “I have to save the world and get my chemistry homework done. Which have I got to do?” It’s really… I truly can’t wait until next Summer.

Michael [Keaton] hasn’t started working, yet. He doesn’t start working until later. It’s a long shoot. It takes a long time. But I have seen Spidey in his new Spidey suit. It’s bad ass.

It was very important [to get Robert Downey Jr.], but I wouldn’t say, I mean it was wonderfully commercially, but that’s not why. We could see the beginnings of the relationship that was established in Civil War. So it was very important from a character part of the story, and I think that fans will really be rewarded by the character growth between them. It’s fun. I gotta say. We feel really, really lucky.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts also starring Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Michael Barbieri, Kenneth Choi, Martin Starr, Donald Glover, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Bokeem Woodbine,  JJ Totah, and Angourie Rice.
