Review: Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #6 (of 9)

[page_title]

It has taken, quite literally, FOREVER for this issue to come out! A normal book would not be able to survive the fickle market and a readership that demands constant monthly gratification. But this is no normal book, and the talent that drives it – the best of the best! Plus, this issue will be the cornerstone book of a new Marvel U., one that brings Wanda Maximoff back with all her chaotic glory! And no one, I mean no one, will see where this one ends up!

After finding Wanda and traveling to the past in order to escape from Doom and the Avengers, the Young Avengers manage to upset a pivotal part of Marvel history. The effects of Disassembled will be forever changed as Scott Lang is pulled from the time stream mere moments before he was to have died! As the now larger squad of heroes emerges in the present, Wanda is consumed with sorrow as her now regained memories overwhelm her. She manifests Ultrons and Kree warriors from her Chaos powers in order to reign retribution down upon herself. But before her attempted suicide can be fully recognized, Wiccan approaches her with a secret that will set the Scarlett Witch on a new path. One that will change the landscape of the entire Marvel U.!

This issue is packed with action, suspense, shocks and revelations. It is hard to do a review for a book that has been so exciting, I am not a fan of spoilers for the most part, I want the reader to enjoy the story as much as I have. And this read has been outstanding, weaving in aspects of the past and present as well as tons of guest stars. The Avengers, and some of their New and Secret counterparts, storm the stage – but don’t think the mutants aren’t represented in this one either. Members of both X-Factor and the X-Men take center stage and one of them will become the first to see a bright new future!

Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung have created a book that is one of the most impressive looks at where the entire comics medium can take a reader. Emotional, poignant and visually stunning, each issue is more impressive than the last. It doesn’t matter if you are an Avengers or X fan, the story is what will entrance you to become a fan of the series itself regardless of prior allegiances. It is rich in Marvel history, yet will not lose the casual reader with it’s multi-faceted scenarios. It is fully engrossing and stacked with Easter eggs for all those Marvel Zombies. Speaking of which, you gotta love Hawkeye making the comment about expecting Jack of Hearts to show up after he meets Scott Lang! AWESOME!

With only three issues left, I wait with bated breath to see where this story will take us. If it’s only as half as good as the others have been – it will be nothing short of astounding!
