Predator: Badlands Trailer Flips the Script – The Hunter Becomes the Hero

The Predator franchise is flipping the script again. This time, the alien hunter isn’t the threat — it’s the lead. Dan Trachtenberg returns to the franchise following Prey with Predator: Badlands, and the first trailer just dropped, showing a future-set tale where the Predator takes center stage. Watch below.

The Predator Becomes the Protagonist

Set on a remote alien world, Predator: Badlands introduces a young Predator outcast (played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi) as the main character. Trachtenberg says the film aims to make audiences root for the creature without losing the intimidation factor. “The creature is front and center, leading the charge,” he previously told Empire. It’s an emotional spin, but still brutal.

This is not a direct sequel to Prey, but the movie keeps the same spirit — challenging what a Predator movie can be by pushing the character into new territory. The director hints that the goal was to create something spiritually connected to Prey but entirely its own thing.

“He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting,” said Trachtenberg.

Update: Following the trailer release, Trachtenberg released new details.

Elle Fanning Plays a Key Role

Joining the action is Elle Fanning, who pulls double duty by playing multiple characters in the film. Trachtenberg teased that her role was demanding on every level — dramatic, physical, and logistical. Expect her to be more than just a supporting player.

“She faced intense challenges on this movie — dramatically, physically, logistically,” Trachtenberg teased.

The Story

In Predator: Badlands, the young Predator is exiled by his clan and teams up with Thia (Fanning) on a dangerous mission. Their goal? To face off against a new, ultimate enemy. The film combines survival, action, and an unlikely alliance across a harsh alien terrain. It’s part survival story, part character drama, but always with the Predator at the forefront.

Release Info

Predator: Badlands hits theaters and IMAX on November 7, 2025. It’s produced by John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O’Connor. Trachtenberg also developed a secret animated Predator project.
