New Mutants Goofy?

New Mutants Goofy?

The Josh Boone New Mutants movie seems off to a rocky start before its out of the gate.

Not only was it learned the New Mutants movie will be rated PG-13, but now it’s reported that the film will undergo reshoots that actually sees a new character added in.

If I had to guess, I would guess that the initial plan was for New Mutants to follow Deadpool and Logan and be rated-R, as New Mutants was previously described as a horror movie.

I know I was hoping New Mutants would be something different and new along the lines of Deadpool and Logan, but that might not be happening.

If I have to guess again, I’m guessing the Fox execs stepped in and have decided to make the movie more kid or family friendly (maybe more in the line of an “X-Men” movie).

In THR’s report how the planned Fox Studios and Disney deal could upset the Marvel Fox movies, it’s mentioned that “New Mutants will undergo a round of additional photography this summer that will insert a new character.”

Bloody Disgusting further claims that reason for what might be extensive reshoots (where did we hear that before??) is because of poor test screenings for New Mutants.

Regarding the additional character, if I had to guess a third time, it would be Warlock, which would give the movie a more goofy and comedic approach a la Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor: Ragnarok (again just a guess on my part).

Now I’m not saying New Mutants is going to be as goofy as Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor: Ragnarok, but that Warlock will be used to liven up what would have been a rather dark (horror) movie and one that what was going to be rated-R. It seems clear to me the character they are adding is going to be different than the current characters (serious), otherwise why add an additional character?

(Note: I hope I’m wrong.)

New Mutants has an April 13, 2018 release starring Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
