Michael Shanks Urges Stargate Fans to Call Blair Fetter, Sign Petition

Michael Shanks is not letting Amazon’s Stargate cancellation go quietly.

The actor, best known to fans as Dr. Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1, has been active on X following the fan backlash to Amazon MGM Studios pulling the plug on Martin Gero’s new Stargate series.

Now Shanks is telling fans to make noise, sign petitions, contact Amazon, and even ask for the executive tied to the decision.

Michael Shanks Tells Fans to Take Action

Shanks responded to a fan campaign calling for a banner to be flown over Amazon Studios headquarters by writing: “I’m here for this too.”

He also reposted support for a Change.org petition calling for Stargate to return which has over 40k signatures, with one post stating: “This Stargate petition still stands… we just need to add Martin Gero to it. @AmazonMGMStudio you dropped the ball big time. Never forget #SaveTheGate.”

Shanks then made his own position clear, telling fans this may be the last chance to save a version of Stargate involving the original creative team and cast.

“I’m gonna simply say this: if you are at all interested in a Stargate show with ANY of the original creators/performers involved, now is the time to say something. Otherwise it really will be the end of that chapter forever. Let them know you are THERE,” he wrote.

Shanks Says to Call Amazon and Ask for Blair Fetter

When a fan asked how supporters could make their voices heard, Shanks replied: “Pound their social media and sign the petitions in my timeline. Then call their office.”

He followed that up with a more direct post: “Call @AmazonMGMStudio ask for ‘Blair Fetter.'”

The executive is Blair Fetter, Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Worldbuilding & Genre Series. According to Deadline, Fetter’s division oversees major genre franchises at Amazon MGM, and the new Stargate series fell under his purview. Fetter joined Amazon after the series had already been greenlit, while the executives who developed and championed the project — Nick Pepper and Matt King — are no longer with the company.

In other words, the Stargate series appears to have been caught in the middle of Amazon’s latest executive shakeup.

Fans Are Fighting for Martin Gero’s Stargate

The backlash started after Amazon canceled Gero’s Stargate series despite the project reportedly completing a 20-week writers room and entering pre-production in the UK.

Gero, a longtime Stargate veteran who worked on SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe, had spent more than two years developing the new series. Joe Mallozzi, who was involved as a consulting producer, said the show would have honored existing canon while serving as an entry point for new viewers.

Mallozzi previously confirmed the cancellation and said the lost version of the show embraced what made Stargate work in the first place.

“Action, adventure, exploration, wonder, heart, humor, and found family,” he said.

He also disputed reports that Amazon canceled the series because executives felt it would not have broad appeal beyond the existing fanbase.

“Nope. No. Sorry. Gonna have to push back on this. We were ever mindful of creating a show that would have broad appeal,” added Mallozzi.

Shanks also pushed back on that claim, writing: “I also dispute their claim.”

Stargate Series Canceled At Amazon: Joe Mallozzi Responds

The Save Stargate Campaign Grows

The fan campaign has since grown across X, Change.org, and other platforms, with fans using hashtags like #SaveTheGate and urging Amazon to reconsider.

The frustration is simple: fans believe Amazon had a Stargate revival from people who understood the franchise, then canceled it late in the process.

As we covered in our report on the fan revolt and Joe Mallozzi’s pushback, fans, Mallozzi, and Shanks have all challenged Amazon’s reported reasoning for the cancellation.

Amazon canceled the series months after it was officially announced, raising more questions about what the studio plans to do with the Stargate IP moving forward.

For now, Shanks is making it clear that fans still have a voice. If they want a Stargate series with the original creators or performers involved, he says now is the time to use it.
