Sources within the business have sent over The Matrix 4 details which include that filming will take place in Berlin as well as possible details for The Oracle.
I also received the recent details about the Dolph Lundgren and Scott Adkins movie from the same folks.
I’m told The Matrix 4 will film in San Francisco, as has previously been reported, with my sources also informing the movie will film in Berlin.
Berlin is the location where the Wachowskis filmed Cloud Atlas with German director Tom Tykwer, and their Sense8 Netflix series.
I’m also told that filming on The Matrix 4 will take place approximately February through early July in San Francisco and Berlin and that, yes, the working title is “Project Ice Cream.”
The Matrix 4 The Oracle details
Regarding The Oracle, I’ve been provided casting details for a role; so the role being The Oracle is just a guess on my part based on the description of the character.
Worth a mention is that actress Mary Alice who replaced Gloria Foster as The Oracle in The Matrix Revolutions hasn’t worked since 2005, according to IMDb, so it could be possible that Mary Alice is retired and that they are looking for a new actress to play the part again. Another possibility is that they may want to go with a new face for The Oracle for The Matrix 4 to fit with the change from the first three movies.
I’m told The Matrix 4 is looking to cast a supporting role for an African-American female character in her mid-70s to 100-years-old. The character is also described as “earthy” and no taller than 5’6.”
An interesting additional detail I have been told about the part is that the actress must be able to walk over rough terrain without assistance. Now whether that is a clue to scenes being filmed or simply that the set is considered rough terrain, I have no idea, but if it’s related to a scene, rough terrain could mean any number of things, such as that scenes may be filmed outside The Matrix, in the real world, a return to Zion, or perhaps it’s a reference to some kind of battleground or what have you.
Again, it’s just a guess that the role is for The Oracle, and it could always be for another supporting role in the movie, but since the character is an elderly African American woman who is “earthy,” it seems to fit.
The Matrix 4: Keanu Reeves back as Neo
Details for The Matrix 4 include that Keanu Reeves returns as Neo (possibly Thomas Anderson if it’s in part a prequel) with Carrie-Anne Moss returning as Trinity; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, known for playing the Aquaman villain Black Manta, is rumored to be playing a young Morpheus; Marvel’s Iron Fist actress Jessica Henwick is said to be playing a female-like Neo character at the forefront of the movie; Jonathan Groff, star of Netflix’s Mindhunter, and Toby Onwumere, known for the Wachowski’s Sense8, are also said to be joining the film, and most recently saw Priyanka Chopra Jonas join the film.
The Matrix 4 gets released on May 21, 2021 directed and produced by Lana Wachowski who also co-wrote the screenplay with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell; Grant Hill also returns as producer, who executive produced Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions.
Warner Bros. describes the film as an “all-new film, returning audiences to the reality-bending universe.”
