Amazon, MGM, and Mattel have found their He-Man for the live-action Masters of the Universe movie in development, and it’s Nicholas Galitzine.

The 29-year-old actor will play both Prince Adam and He-Man. He is known for the Prime Video rom-coms, The Idea of You, and Red, White & Royal Blue; Galitzine also starred in Mary and George, Purple Hearts, Chambers, and as Prince Robert in the 2021 Cinderella remake where he showcased his vocal talent as he is also a singer.

“’By the Power of Greyskull, I HAVE THE POWER!’” posted Galitzine on Instagram. “I’m so beyond proud to announce that I will be playing Adam, Prince of Eternia in ‘Masters of the Universe’. It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started.”

Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man. This reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”

Mattel Films President, Robbie Brenner, added, “Mattel Films is proud to work with Amazon and team up again with the incredible Courtenay Valenti, to bring Masters of the Universe to the big screen. We are thrilled to be producing alongside the highly respected and prolific Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch, with the visionary Travis Knight, and the charismatic and talented Nicholas Galitzine, our Prince Adam/He-Man!”

What is Masters of the Universe about?

The film has a June 5, 2026 release date directed by Bumblebee‘s Travis Knight. The script is being written by Knight’s Kubo and the Two Strings stop-motion animated action fantasy film writer, Chris Butler, following David Callaham and the Nee brothers taking an initial crack at the script.

A previous synopsis offered the following, which sounds awful, but worth a note is that Deadline didn’t include it in their report, so hopefully they wised up and ditched it:

10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!

It also remains to be seen how they approach the character of He-Man as Nicholas Galitzine needs a bit of beef on him to fill the role. Of course, they can hopefully Chris Hemsworth him up in time.
