It’s being claimed that Marvel still has plans to move forward with the Young Avengers and that it will be a Disney+ series.
Young Avengers is said to be starring Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, both of whom were featured in that post-credit scene for The Marvels.
As we just went over, Disney teased the Young Avengers in a promotion for their cruise lines. The promo features Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Kathyrn Newton as Cassie Lang, and Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, aka Ironheart.
Who are the MCU’s Young Avengers?
Making up the MCU’s Young Avengers looks to be:
- Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel)
- Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop (Hawkeye)
- Kathyrn Newton as Cassie Lang (Stature/Stinger)
- Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez (Miss America)
- Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan (Wiccan)
- Dominique Thorn as Riri Williams (Ironheart)
- Rumors have offered Elijah Bradley (Patriot) and Tommy (Speed) could be a part of the team. Possibly Skaar from She-Hulk?
What does the Young Avengers rumor say?
Regarding what the Young Avengers rumor says, it comes via the Kristian Harloff YouTube channel who wrote for Collider back in the day.
The YouTuber says Marvel is developing Young Avengers as a TV series, not a movie or streaming movie:
“We’ve been talking about the Young Avengers for very long time in this show and are somewhat difference of opinion of what it should be: Should it be a movie? Should it be a streaming movie? Well, it’s going to be none of those things. If you believe my source, which I do, source says it is a streaming show. It’s a series. They are going to do a Young Avengers streaming series.”
The YouTuber adds that he doesn’t do scoops but the source who told them the info has been right on more than one occasion:
“I am hearing that this is as show. It’s a full-on show that they’re going to do. What I’m hearing again is that this is going to be a show and we’re going to get the the people that [are] the two main stars that you know – with Haley Steinfeld and [Ms. Marvel] Iman Vellani – we’re going to get them. I don’t know how many episodes. I would assume limited. That’s what I heard as far as those things go.”
Who is the audience for Young Avengers?
Assuming the info is legit, and it’s not simply a Marvel producer hoping to get word out to create fake excitement in the hopes of getting his/her project greenlit, it should be questioned who exactly is the audience for Young Avengers?
Obviously, from the list above, you can see the team is severely lacking in testosterone. The women didn’t show up for The Marvels, which starred Iman Vellani. The film lost Disney $200 million. Likewise, the MCU fans didn’t show up for the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series. It’s the least-watched MCU show on Disney+.
Agatha featuring Joe Locke as Billy also looks to be the second least-watched MCU show on Disney+. Yep, the fans didn’t show up again.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania starring Kathyrn Newton as Cassie Lang also bombed so hard they had to bring back Robert Downey Jr.
Was Hawkeye starring Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop a success? There is no Season 2.
I’ll say if Young Avengers does get made as a Disney+ show, it will have to have a super low budget. While Agatha is bombing in the ratings, it happens to be Marvel’s cheapest show to have been made. However, I don’t know if that low cost can justify nobody watching the show.
Nobody wants Young Avengers. And are they even the Young Avengers??? — Hailee Steinfeld will be 30 by the time it gets made; Iman Vellani 25; Kathyrn Newton 30; Dominique Thorn 30, Joe Lock 24, Xochitl Gome 21. Time to move on, folks!
Update: Exactly as I said, it’s now claimed the actors are too old and Young Avengers has been dropped in favor of Champions.
