Marvel Studios Exec Shoots Down Doctor Strange Rumor; Viggo Mortensen Not Working Anymore?

Marvel Studios Exec Shoots Down Doctor Strange Rumor; Viggo Mortensen Not Working Anymore?

Now, I don’t really know what to think about this.

It’s either a case of someone trying to steer everybody away from the fact that Viggo Mortensen is Doctor Strange, or — ?

To bring you up to speed, a rumor hit the net that Doctor Strange is going to appear in Thor 2, “The Dark World,” with it said that Viggo Mortensen is in talks with Marvel Studios, meaning for the role of Doctor Strange.

Well, apparently a Marvel Studios executive, Victoria Alonso (relation to Marvel Comics EIC Axel Alonso?), shoots down the notion that Viggo Mortensen is playing Doctor Strange — by citing that she didn’t know the actor was still working.

Now, you read that right.

Here’s the quote (via The Collider translated from the Omlette):

We would love to work with Viggo Mortensen. I’ve been trying that for years. But I don’t know if Viggo is even acting anymore. I thought he wasn’t acting anymore. It would be great to work with him in the future, but we don’t have him signed, no.

Thought he wasn’t acting anymore?

Viggo Mortensen has a new movie coming out August 30th, Everybody Has A Plan. In addition, he is currently involved with two more movies, The Two Faces of January and The Last Voyage of Demeter.

Are we really supposed to buy that a Marvel Studios exec didn’t know Viggo Mortensen was acting?

Hmmm
something strange is going on here, eh?!

Thor 2: The Dark World hammers into theaters November 8th, 2013 directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimidall, Zachary Levi as Fandral and Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Christopher Eccleston as Malekith the Accursed, Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Kurse.
