Marvel Announces Gay Spider-Man

Marvel Comics has announced a new Gay Spider-Man will be coming to the comics and possibly the Into the Spider-Verse animated movies from Sony.

In a deleted tweet from last week, Marvel Comics writer Steve Foxe, who is also writing the X-Men ’92 series at Marvel Comics, revealed details for the Gay Spider-Man named Web-Weaver.

“Something I realized immediately when conceiving Web-Weaver is that he can’t — and shouldn’t — represent ALL gay men. No single character can,” tweeted Foxe. “His fearlessly femme identity is central to who he is, but it’s not the STORY
which you can experience for yourself in September!”

The official description for the comic from Marvel, Edge of Spider-Verse #5, also mentions Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, the pair of filmmakers behind the Spider-Verse animated movies, as two more are in the works with Across the Spider-Verse and Beyond the Spider-Verse:

Three brand new Spiders get their start here! WEB-WEAVER: A not-so-mild mannered fashion designer at Van Dyne gets spider-powers and shows us a very different kind of Spider-Slayer. HUNTER-SPIDER: Imagine a world where Sergei Kravinoff got Spider-Powers. You are not ready for the most hardcore Spider yet! Both of these and Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, the filmmakers behind the Spider-Verse movies, create a new Spider just in time for the END OF THE SPIDER-VERSE!

The artist, Kris Anka, also tweeted character designs which can be seen below in addition to the cover art.
