Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum Poster Released At CinemaCon, Jamie Dornan Cast As Strider

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum Poster Released At CinemaCon, Jamie Dornan Cast As Strider

Warner Bros. revealed a teaser poster for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum at CinemaCon and confirmed the cast and that movie hits theaters on December 17, 2027.

The studio also posted on social media, “We’ve been waiting for you, precious. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum only in theaters 17 December 2027.”

Cast announced for The Hunt for Gollum

The poster confirms Andy Serkis returns as Gollum and Sméagol, with Ian McKellen back as Gandalf, Lee Pace as Thranduil, and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins.

New additions include Kate Winslet as Marigol, Leo Woodall as Halvard, and Jamie Dornan as Strider.

Jamie Dornan is playing Strider, the alias of Aragorn

Jamie Dornan’s casting is one of the bigger reveals because Strider is the ranger identity used by Aragorn before his true name is fully revealed in The Lord of the Rings.

In Peter Jackson’s original trilogy, Aragorn was played by Viggo Mortensen, so Dornan is stepping into that role for the new film.

First look poster puts Gollum front and center

The teaser poster shown at CinemaCon keeps the focus on Gollum, with Andy Serkis’ character crouched in a dark cave under beams of light, while the cast names are displayed below.

The image pushes the movie’s darker tone and makes clear this one is centered on Gollum’s story.

What the movie is about

The Hunt for Gollum is directed by Andy Serkis and is set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

The story follows the search for Gollum as Gandalf and Aragorn try to track him down before Sauron learns too much about Bilbo’s ring.
