Lanterns Trailer Yanked From HBO Max, DC, And Warner Bros. Channels

Lanterns Trailer Yanked From HBO Max, DC, And Warner Bros. Channels

For some reason, the Lanterns teaser trailer appears to have been taken down across nearly all of the official channels that first helped push it out.

When we went back to embed the teaser in our latest Lanterns poster article, we noticed the original video had been switched to private.

From there, more digging turned up the same thing elsewhere.

As of now, the teaser does not appear on the official HBO Max YouTube channel, and it also doesn’t appear on the official DC or Warner Bros. YouTube channels (Clayface is there).

The trailer also isn’t showing up through HBO Max’s official social rollout the way it did when it first launched.

What still remains up, however, is James Gunn’s official social post promoting the teaser and the August release window. Worth a mention is that Gunn previously has confirmed HBO is in charge of marketing.

Trailer was officially released last month

What is interesting is that the Lanterns trailer was first leaked, and then released as official.

HBO Max did officially put it out after an unauthorized leak forced things early, and trades and entertainment outlets covered it as the real first teaser for the series.

That included reporting that the show stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, with the series set for an August 2026 debut on HBO Max.

However, the trailer has since been listed as “private” on HBO Max’s YouTube channel.

Now it seems to be missing almost everywhere official

At the moment, also odd is how hard the teaser is to find through the usual official places.

Search results still point back to social posts from the original rollout, including official HBO Max and HBO Facebook entries and James Gunn’s official Instagram and Facebook posts, which shows the teaser definitely existed as part of the launch campaign.

But now, only Gunn’s version appears to still be easy to locate in a clearly official way, while the broader studio and platform presence looks scrubbed or at least buried.

Searches on YouTube are also turning up mostly fan uploads, reaction videos, reposts, and unofficial trailer channels instead of the expected official uploads from HBO Max, DC, or Warner Bros. Even IGN doesn’t have the trailer up on its YouTube.

Even reaction videos may now be preserving the original upload

Because the official teaser is suddenly hard to find, reaction videos and reposts may now be the easiest way to confirm what was originally released.

That includes YouTubers and movie channels that captured the teaser with the HBO Max watermark from when it first rolled out.

Search results also still show discussion threads and reposts referencing the official teaser title and August HBO Max branding, which adds more evidence that the original marketing push happened and has apparently since been pulled back in some form.

Why was it taken down?

That’s the big question, and right now there’s no clear answer.

We don’t know when the teaser was taken down, and we don’t know why.

There has been no public explanation that we could find from HBO Max, DC Studios, Warner Bros., or Gunn.

It could be as simple as a marketing reset, a re-upload plan, rights or music cleanup, or some kind of backend platform change.

It could also be tied to the backlash that hit the teaser and the new poster.

But until somebody officially says something, that’s all speculation. The only thing that seems clear is that the trailer was officially released, and now it’s no longer widely available through the main official channels where fans would expect to find it.
