Kevin Feige Trying To Save James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Kevin Feige Trying To Save James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy 3

With Disney recently having fired James Gunn, no official word has come from Marvel Studios, but now the reason why may have become known as it’s reported Kevin Feige is trying to convince Disney to rehire James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

While is has been more or less rumored that Disney stated they will never rehire James Gunn, now a separate rumor is offering that there is still a slight possibility Gunn could return for the third film in the franchise.

According to Deadline, an “11th hour” attempt is being made by Kevin Feige and those at Marvel Studios to bring back James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

The article states sources are offering that back channel conversations are currently taking place between Marvel Studios and Disney, with Marvel trying to persuade Disney to explore some sort of compromise that would bring James Gunn back for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

It’s noted there is no dissension between Marvel Studios or Disney, but it comes about as a result of the cast being loyal and releasing their statement requesting Gunn to be reinstated.

James Gunn

It has also recently become known that Disney still plans on using James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3 script, and Dave Bautista recently threatened to quit if they didn’t use Gunn’s script.

The article notes it may be a long shot, “but the community is talking about it,” and it’s said, “It would not be surprising that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige would make one last try at rapprochement.”

It’s also confirmed that other studios would hire James Gunn as soon as his contract with Disney ends.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3

Regaring the status of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the article states both Disney and Marvel want to move forward quickly on the project. It is also one of the reasons why Chris Pratt’s Cowboy Ninja Viking has been delayed, which is because Cowboy Ninja Viking is getting rewrites, and since Pratt is due to start filming on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 soon (February 2019), there wouldn’t be time to do Cowboy Ninja Viking.

The previous report that stated Disney has no plans on rehiring James Gunn offered that Disney was in no hurry about Guardians of the Galaxy 3, so there seems to be differenet sides at play using the various Hollywood trade sites for PR.

To boot, Deadline brings up a good question as they offer what director would want to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3 following James Gunn having done such a good job and creating a multi-billion dollar franchise for Disney?
