It’s once again stated that Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor has been cut from the Justice League movie.
Last month saw it said Jesse Eisenberg no longer has a role in Justice League with it speculated as a result of all the changes due to Joss Whedon coming on board.
Now following word of last night’s Justice League screening, Batman-News.com tweeted out that they can confirm that the current cut of Justice League does not include Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor scenes.
We can guess they have it on good word from someone who possibly seen the Justice League screening.
A potential reason why Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor scenes were cut from Justice League may also have to do with Ben Affleck leaving The Batman and Matt Reeves now directing. It’s been suggested that Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke appeared in Justice League involved with Lex Luthor; so if Deathstroke appearing in Justice League was meant to set up his appearance in The Batman, and with Matt Reeves possibly not featuring Joe Manganiello in his new script, Whedon may have thrown out both Lex Luthor and Deathstroke as the scene was unneeded.
Another possibility is that WB may be going in a different direction with Lex Luthor. Initially, Bryan Cranston was wanted for the role, and Zack Snyder even said Batman vs. Superman would have been a different movie with Cranston as Lex Luthor. Jesse Eisenberg was actually up to play the role of Jimmy Olsen, who Snyder killed off in the movie, but when Cranston turned down the role, they went with a younger version and cast Eisenberg.
Fans weren’t too happy with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, so maybe down the line they are going with a new actor. There is the Flashpoint movie coming up.
