From Marvel to Creature Commandos — James Gunn welcomes Frank Grillo to Peacemaker Season 2.

Grillo, of course played, Crossbones in the Captain America films, and then Gunn cast him as Rick Flag Sr. in the DC animated Creature Commandos series.

True to Gunn’s word, Grillo now be playing the live-action version in Peacemaker Season 2 which is now filming.

Sounds like Frank Grillo vs John Cena

“Pleased to announce the great @frankgrillo1 will be reprising the role of Rick Flag, Sr – the role he’ll first play in animated form in Creature Commandos – throughout Season 2 of #Peacemaker,” Gunn posted on social media.

The Suicide Squad featured John Cena’s Peacemaker killing Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag; Gunn teases a confrontation with the father.

“Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of…” said Gunn.

Frank Grillo disappointed with Marvel

The actor recently touched upon jumping ship from Marvel to DC.

“They never told a story [about Crossbones]. The mythology of the MCU and just what Marvel has in its pool of characters, it’s so deep. Crossbones was there for a minute, but he was supposed to be there longer, then they went the direction they did,” Grillo said.

He continued, “I think Crossbones serves a purpose, but I think the interesting thing is that if you see how many people around the world have responded to Crossbones, and again, he’s on the screen for a very f–king short amount of time, I think there’s more there. I think there was more meat on the bone. I was disappointed, which is why I went over to DC.”
