James Gunn Confirms Superman: Legacy Release Date

James Gunn confirms Superman: Legacy is still on track for its release date.

A number of movies have been delayed, including everything from Marvel.

However, James Gunn’s DCU slate looks unaffected by the strike which ended earlier in the week.

“Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I’ve seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025,” tweeted Gunn.

The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Also starring includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner. A search is also said to be underway for the role of Lex Luthor.

The film is described by DC as telling the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

”It has to be somebody who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien,” Gunn previously said about his choice for the Man of Steel. “It has to be someone who has the kindness and compassion Superman has and it has to be somebody you want to give a hug. All the Supermen have been good, we just have to add to that story.”
