The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel has found its villain with Jake Gyllenhaal cast as Mysterio.
Michael Keaton will also be back as Vulture.
Mysterio is a long time Spider-Man villain created back in 1964 who is the master of illusion and deception.
Tom Holland will also be back as Peter Parker for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel following his appearance in The Avengers: Infinity War. The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel follows The Avengers 4 and launches Marvel’s Phase 4 plans.
Jake Gyllenhaal was actually up to play Spider-Man at one time back for the Sam Raimi movies, with the role going to Toby Maguire. We can also probably now rule out that Jake Gyllenhaal will play Batman for Matt Reeves, as it was said the actor was in talks for the role.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel has a July 5, 2019 release date with Jon Watts back as director.
