It’s being reported that Michael Arndt has handed in a 40-50 page script for the Star Wars movie and looks to be at least one of the new writers on Episode VII to be released in 2015.

In addition, it’s stated that the script is being shopped around to Star Trek‘s J.J. Abrams, Brad Bird and Steven Spielberg.

Michael Arndt’s credits include being nominated for an Oscar for Toy Story 3, winning an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine, and Arndt is currently writing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as well.

It’s also being said that Disney wants the three original characters, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo to return, with Vulture noting that no deal is in place with the actors as of yet.

According to Vulture, Arndt has been working on the script for some time, which corroborates what has previously been said in that George Lucas has met with high-profile screenwriters.

If Michael Arndt is indeed a/the writer on the new Star Wars it sounds as if the movie will be in good hands, as reportedly, Arndt is a huge Star Wars fans and regularly references the movies in his lectures.

“Since winning the Oscar for Sunshine, Arndt has lectured extensively on the art of storytelling at numerous writers’ retreats, like the Hawaii Writers Conference in Maui and the Austin Film Festival, always featuring a lengthy and detailed explanation of why the original Star Wars’ ending is so creatively satisfying,” Vulture wrote.

Updated: Deadline offers their own update to the news as they report Michael Arndt has handed in a treatment for all three of the next Star Wars films.
