After two years of anticipation, the Warhammer live-action series, led by Henry Cavill, is officially moving forward at Amazon Prime Video. The series, based on the tabletop miniature wargame, will star Cavill as the lead while he also serves as an executive producer.
Warhammer Series Officially in Development
According to Deadline, Amazon Prime Video greenlit the project after assembling a mini writers’ room to refine the creative vision for the Warhammer universe. While details remain under wraps, a showrunner is reportedly in negotiations, signaling that the project is steadily progressing.
Cavill expressed his excitement in a statement:
“My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts.”
He added that the starting point for the cinematic universe has been agreed upon by both Amazon and Games Workshop, though specifics remain a secret for now.
“Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though—more to come in time!”
Henry Cavill’s Passion for Warhammer
Cavill has long been a vocal fan of Warhammer, describing the project as a lifelong dream when it was first announced:
“For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life.”
“To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen.”
“I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and the responsibility.”
To celebrate the announcement, Cavill visited the shop in his hometown of Jersey where he bought his first Warhammer models over 30 years ago.

In addition to Warhammer, Cavill has several high-profile projects lined up, including a live-action Voltron movie filming in Australia and a Highlander reboot directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski in Scotland.
