The upcoming Henry Cavill Highlander movie may not be the only revival in the works.
According to reports, there’s potential for a new Highlander series following the upcoming movie reboot, and with United Artists (UA) holding the full rights, that means Amazon MGM Studios could be looking at expanding the franchise on Prime Video or MGM+.
UA acquired the complete Highlander rights from Lionsgate, which not only gave them control over the movie reboot but also opened the door to other projects, including television. If a series happens, it could spin off directly from Chad Stahelski’s film, possibly rebooting the Duncan MacLeod character and elements from the popular Adrian Paul TV series.

Stahelski has already said the new movie is partly inspired by the Highlander television series, which aired from 1992 to 1998. That show followed Duncan MacLeod, a 400-year-old Immortal and cousin to Christopher Lambert’s Connor MacLeod from the original film. Traveling the modern world, Duncan faced other Immortals in battles “to the death” by beheading — the only way to kill an Immortal — while also exploring his past through flashbacks.
The series expanded the Highlander mythos far beyond the first movie, introducing new Immortals, detailed backstories, and a larger sense of history and lore, including the notion of The Watchers, a secret society that keeps track of Immortals. With Cavill’s movie already aiming to build a “more complex and deeper world,” a connected series could allow those ideas to grow even further.
For now, there’s only world of a potential Highlander series via Deadline‘s article about Dave Bautista playing Kurgan, but with UA, Amazon MGM Studios, and Stahelski all invested in reviving the franchise, the stage is set for the Immortals to fight on the small screen once again as part of an expanded Highlander universe.
The Henry Cavill Highlander movie starts production in September. No release date has been announced.
